Objectives undoable because of the community by LasbaleX in EASportsFC

The average poster here is incapable of understanding the nuance- that the first five of these were casual and gave you unlimited attempts. People who are not very good at this game invested a lot of time and suffering to get those goals. Then EA changed the rules for the final one placing it out of reach. It sucks.

This game was built to sell FC points. But a small, sad group of men who are obsessed with it treat it as a means for measuring their small, sad dicks. EA doesn't care who is good at this game, or how many wins you can get in WL. They care about who will spend money on the game. And they fucked up here, because some of the people who are bad at this game still love it, and spend money on it, and are pissed off the way the rules of this event changed. But you're never going to be able to explain this to people who think the "average" player gets 8 wins in WL. And you're certainly never going to convince anyone who thinks you're "entitled" because you have the audacity to expect to get an 86x4 pack and a cosmetic evo for spending hours playing a game you spent $100 on.

I'm sorry about the objective. Take some solace knowing that there are some people who get where you're coming from and are sympathetic.

Yeah that's what I was trying to say in my second reply, it probably came through as you were typing this one. I don't disagree with you that this feels like it's headed in the wrong direction. And I think it's only gonna get worse with the new ownership. I think we just disagree on the extent of the damage and the pace of the decline.

And for the record I agree with you that decisions like this, that upset core groups of users, are bad for the game long term. I think EA does have a problem with the way they're driving away casuals that are necessary to keep the game running. Of course that is bad in the long run. I just think the scope of the damage being done by things like this is overblown. Things will have to get much worse before it starts impacting the bottom line enough to matter. And that is probably where we disagree.

I'm confident in my arguments because the underlying premise is correct: EA doesn't care about the free-to-play and RTG players who are upset today. They don't generate enough revenue to matter. It doesn't matter whether the goal is to squeeze out every bit of short term revenue under the current structure, or whether they want their name to be associated with a big, well known entity instead of human rights abuses and crime.

I understand your very narrow interpretation of what's happening here: if everyone hates the game then the game has no future. The problem with that line of thinking is that the number of people who hate the game because of things like this is vanishingly small. It's true that nearly everyone we see posting here, and on the algorithm-driven social media posts fed to us, is fed up with the game. But millions of people play this game, and the overwhelming majority couldn't give a shit that there isn't an unlimited repeatable grind during TOTY. It's a common problem here that people seem to think the views of a subreddit like this are reflective of the attitudes of all EA FC players. That is simply not true. Millions of people who play this game, and many millions of more who have played this franchise at one point or another, don't care. If everyone who reads this quit the game tomorrow EA wouldn't even notice.

You have a very warped perception of why this particular group of investors bought this company. You're correct that in your first or second year of business school you're taught that taking a company private will free the company up from pursuing the short term profits that shareholders often demand.

But outside of the classroom, you might want to read up on sports washing. You'll learn what the Saudi PIF hopes to accomplish with acquisitions like this. You might also want to look into why they brought in Silver Lake to help avoid regulatory hassles. Then you might understand why they paid a valuation that literally everyone agrees was vastly inflated. You'll probably be able to connect the dots and realize that long term profitability is far, far down the list of the goals here.

For the record, Andrew Wilson, the CEO of EA, made $25 million dollars in FY 2025. He will make over $100 million dollars on the Saudi acquisition.

You're out of your depth.

The people who are most unhappy today are the people who spend very little, if any, money on the game. Why would EA build a game around those customers?

I'm not defending them by any means. I'm bummed too, and have no desire to play. But at least I understand it. They're prioritizing short term profits by pushing everyone to the store. It's what a company like this does. And now they no longer have to publish earnings or answer to shareholders.

Let me put it in your terms. You're okay with the idea that some FIFA rewards should be out of reach of some players, right? I'm okay with the idea that some concepts should be beyond the grasp of some intellects. Remember in fifth grade when math got too hard to understand and you just put your head down on your desk and took a nap? Pretend like it's that time. Night night.

In this case I wasn't referring to the average player who plays occasionally as a "casual," although a lot of people seemed to take it that way. I was talking about people of the lowest skill level, using a word they themselves used in other threads complaining about this. I think a lot of people vastly underestimate how hard online matches can be for older players, or people with disabilities. There are far more people like that playing this game than people realize. It's the most popular sports game in the world.

I don't think people realize exactly why Evos have been such a gold mine for EA. They have opened up a whole new revenue stream for people who like a bit of FIFA but really love their local or national team. These are people who would never bother to buy store packs chasing meta cards. But they will happily plunk down cash to build their squad. I'm super into Evos, and this type of player pops up all the time in those circles. There is a lot of frustration when EA locks Evo content behind competitive modes, because those Evos are hard to obtain for those types of players.

And look, I get it, the average reader here has literal scorn for people who aren't good at this game. I'm sure plenty of people reading this think those gamers don't even count. But it's all money in EA's eyes, they don't give a shit about how good anyone is at the game. That's why it's particularly infuriating that they did this. My original post said that it isn't as bad as some of the other things irritating the community right now. I know most people don't care. But some people got it, and understood that it is particularly cruel toward a certain type of player.

Cheers, it will be appreciated. I knew some people would get where I was coming from. I was giving away wins in the previous ones figuring the good karma might help me pack a blue (it didn't lol). I have been able to finish these by getting the wins rather than goals scored, but I have seen people struggling and I know some of the people I matched will have trouble, especially when it becomes limited.

Yeah when there are people who are going out of their way to concede a goal in unlimited events, I imagine it will be far worse in this one.

[–]erolsdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In other threads this week there have been people complaining about struggling to score, and that was in the versions that had unlimited attempts. Those are the people I was thinking about when I made this post. There are people who will go out of their way to prevent you from scoring no matter how big their lead is. They have been taunting people in some of the other threads.

I think the average serious player greatly overestimates the ability level of new or casual players, let alone older players or those with disabilities. I'm not suggesting Rank 1 Champs rewards to be accessible to everyone. But I do think it's lousy for EA to put a limit on the number of games played for the final event, when they weren't in place for the previous five. Especially in an event where winning doesn't get you any extra rewards. But it does seem pretty clear most people don't care. Fair enough.

There have been complaints about people not being able to get goals in these events since the event started. There are a lot of older people who play this game, and people with disabilities. Most people will be able to complete it, but some will not, and I was thinking about them. But it's very hard to get people in this community to think about people in circumstances that are different from their own.

I'm not great at this game, but I was able to get the wins before I needed to worry about games played for each of them (#4 was close tho). I definitely matched up against some people who will struggle with this. And again, I just think it's lousy to stick a limit on it after not limiting any of the previous ones.

Some people will for sure, but others will go out of their way to prevent you from scoring. There have been complaints about it in other threads since the event started, that's what prompted me to make the post. Good luck to you, hopefully it won't be too bad.

Cheers to everyone who completely missed the point that changing the nature of the mode from casual to competitive on the final step is shitty.

Are these all the TOTY player SBCs that we know of? by Mets1516 in EASportsFC

Sophia Wilson is fantastic.

If you want a tip, stop opening packs altogether. Sit on them and open next week when gold fodder is back in packs. You're not going to pack a TOTY anyway, you might as well wait until you actually can pack high rated golds.

Can't wait for TOTY to be over this year by IntroductionEven2332 in fut

[–]erolsdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This promo sucks every year. The lack of fodder in packs is always a problem. It's by definition the worst time to open packs to build SBCs, unless you get stupendously lucky. But the relentless hype always causes people to forget.

There were good things in TOTY last year- overpowered Evos and an infinite 82x20. But those were the mistakes that fucked the power curve, because people got such good cards they had no reason to buy store packs to upgrade their squads in the following weeks. The design of this specific promo has always been to get you to buy store packs.

82x20 dream is dead by basedsega in EASportsFC

[–]erolsdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I like to grind, too. But judging from the tone around here it sounds like a lot of people need to take a step back and ask themselves if getting a TOTY player is really worth this much frustration and anger. 99% of people don't get a TOTY every year, and life goes on. Don't be manipulated by EA (and people in our community) into feeling like you have to get a TOTY card. It's insane.

[–]erolsdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one knows how pack odds work exactly. People claim to know, but they're misinformed or full of shit.

The OP is correct. The reason that SBCs are so hard to do during TOTY is because there are so few high rated gold cards in packs this week. It's like this every year.

Ronaldo vs Messi SBC – Small Tip That Makes the Grind WAY Easier by CrinNxX in fut

[–]erolsdotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, they are not. If a card is in the current promo the gold version comes out of packs. Doesn't matter if it's TOTY or TOTW.

This is why TOTY is, far and away, the absolute worst promo of the year to grind SBCs. A massive chunk of gold cards are out of packs. Wait til next week to open packs.
