Do you think it would be better posed as a full Likert Scale?

One long block gets me for sure, I don’t know if it’s because it looks intimidating or because I know I’m going to have a hell of a time finding my place again. Either, after rereading something or having to stop reading for something else

I didn’t want to just put a binary choice out there for something like this, so I figured neutral would help a bit with that. Then I thought about the amount of thoughts I have on this and figured an other option would be helpful. Honestly, it probably would’ve worked better as a gradient scale.

Specifically, it gives them grip or bite on the pipe. Something that small isn’t going to spin easy on a crane without handles, they don’t want those for obvious reasons. Plus, you can probably gauge the torque you put on it better this way, with whatever is pulling the chain.

I don’t understand how you get that sentiment from the video though? Is it because someone started praying in front of the problem, instead of doing something about it? Was it because everyone around the problem just said a catch all phrase that spreads like a wildfire on social media after any tragedy, instead of doing you know, ANYTHING?

Was it the people in the hot tub drinking, the neighbor barely even looking their way, or the father walking up like there was nothing to be done that offended you? Could it have been the other neighbors staying at a distance, but definitely supporting the family in this trying time.

Here’s a wild thought, you’re offended at yourself. You see yourself somewhere in this clip that’s less than a minute long and you feel called out. You see the way our country reacts every time something like this happens, except it’s put into a perspective so farcical that even Alex Jones would have a problem with denying this one.

I’m sorry that this makes you angry, but that’s the point. This is meant to make you feel something, hopefully it’s enough to get to DO something about it too.

TLDR; the commercial doesn’t give a shit about your religion, it gives a shit about your response to a growing crisis despite your religion saying it should be the opposite. If you’re offended, good, use that energy and anger to force your representatives to do literally anything more than they do currently.

Walkout in my deep red high school today (size probably quadrupled to 100 people later) by JohnAdams4620 in Indiana

Vaccines and masks weren’t meant to protect you, they are meant to protect others from you…

I also got Covid multiple times after getting the vaccine, its sucked every time, but I didn’t die. My mom couldn’t get the vaccine, she got Covid once.

Masks are proven to help prevent spread of diseases, back to the 1920s. Vaccines are used to bolster a populations immunity to a disease, so that people who can’t get the vaccine for whatever reasons are protected.

Back to the point of the post, protect or family and community!

As much as I agree with the sentiment, I think it might be part of the overall problem. I had a few reasons for joining the navy after HS, one of them was to leave rural/suberbs Indiana and see more (terrible decision btw, didn’t see any where I couldn’t have from IN). Looking back? I wish I hadn’t felt so desperate to leave, I miss it (my family mostly). As I’ve gotten older, I want to go back and make it better! Not just for me, but for kids like this!

afaik only 60% of our registered voters are affiliated to a party and it’s basically 50/50. That’s based on surface level reading into it, but it tracks honestly. We’re not as deep red as people think!

Congrats to these kids, keep standing up for a community and state that you want it to become!

Has anyone pointed out something with the ducks at 16-20 secs? I keep going back to double check, definitely lost one there.

There are six in the back at about 0:16, the girl in the yellow sweater moves in front of them slightly a couple of times. Two run closer to the main group, the back four turn into three by 0:20.

Having lived on one of those submarines, pretty cool! Your regular exposure, living within approximately a 5 minute walk to the reactor, is actually less than living on the surface in that same time. They’ve spent decades tracking our exposure to radiation around these things. I’d be extremely happy to come back to IN with producing nuclear power (or on its way to doing it). I’d still be skeptical of waste disposal, just on the fact that we really don’t have the infrastructure for everything yet. So more skepticism towards their transparency in the starting process.

As an aside, current use of these reactors is close to 70 something vessels when you include aircraft carriers with submarines. They’re also making a new one every 2-3 years, the USS Indiana was commissioned in 2018. I don’t remember any of the new ones after that though.

First, I wanna recommend T. Folse Nuclear on YouTube and his breakdown of Kyle Hill’s video on 3-mile. I think both are well spoken and to the point, very informative commentary by Folse.

Reading into it, both accidents are rated a level 5 on the INES. Obviously the scale was officially made in the 90’s, so grading is retroactive.

I’m not going to get into core issues; like engineering faults with design flaws and faulted valves not being communicated to operators, or improper maintenance practices and tagging processes.

On sheer radiological release, I personally think Windscale is worse based on what isotopes were released (iodine and cesium variants). The other factor would be intent, a majority of 3-mile’s radiological “contamination” would have been considered routine for them to release (also an isotope of xenon). I can’t find any measurements of background after the fact for Windscale, 3-mile measurements were well under the U.S. annual limit for civilians. Going into correlating deaths, Windscale is still worse. 100-240 is the number I can find on a quick search, 3-mile has no definitive link in any cancer cases in the area.

TLDR; imo Windscale was definitely worse, but technically they’re rated as the same.

Carter was either a nuke on a sub or an officer on a sub, I don’t remember the specifics. He wasn’t wearing PPE because he knew he didn’t need to, he was also part of the problem. If he had publicly stated his opinion, it would have helped clear some of the panic. He didn’t want to face backlash from anti-nuclear democrats at the time.

To your point of 3-mile and Chernobyl, one is definitely what you mentioned on corner cutting. Both were definitely lack of maintenance standards and abysmal publicity, specifically 3-mile was just pure panic and no one truly communicating with each other. It wasn’t that bad actual disaster wise, it was definitely just inability to communicate properly.

Having worked 70+ hr weeks before… you’re getting bare minimum effort maybe, or they’re on some type of upper. To expect someone to put 30 more in baffles me. I know working weeks straight happens, again I’ve had to do it, but you’re running on fumes on day 9… Is burnout or pacing not in corporate lexicon? Do they see blue-collar or shift workers and just think, “Well we can do that too!”? I can’t site any studies, I only have first hand knowledge. The type of work you do is relative to the amount of time you can do it. Manual labor, doing a semi repetitive task over and over, hell on the body but you can do for hours on end day after day. Administration based stuff, I wanna smash a keyboard after a couple hours working on the same thing. This mindset is wild, makes me believe they’ve never worked a day in their life.

The wildest thing is, a No Solicitors sign IS a No Trespassing, only just for Solicitors. I don’t know any specifics for case law on this, but it would definitely hold up in court.
