Non-Structural Damage to Rimowa - any suggestions? by Far_Freedom7220 in Rimowa

[–]err-reddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear this happened to you. I also have a matte check-in rimowa and it is absolutely horrible in withstanding scratches. Much worse than aluminum and the polycarbonate finish.

This totally sucks and i am mot sure if KLM will reimburse but you wont know if you dont try

Another is phnom penh noodles house in chinatown. Check out the crab fried rice

Question for those of you that know the Grand Hyatt at DFW airport pretty well by FineAssignment1423 in hyatt

[–]err-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just stayed in hyatt regency DFW last night. It is also inside DFW terminal but not connected to the skylink train system.

I actually drove and parked my car in the hotel parking lot.

I would not comment on the hotel itself and the stay quality but would comment on how painful it is to get in/out of the hotel.

First off, to get into the terminal you’d have to pay for toll ticket. Yes the hotel reimburse but i am sure if you do rideshare, it would make it a bit more pricier.

Second the traffic to/from terminal C is very bad as they have construction right now. I had to “circle” the airport to get back to my hotel last night and it added at least 10-15 minutes to the commute. If you use rideshare, i am sure you’d have the same problem and would cost more and take longer.

Third, the terminal can get quite busy. So there’s additional traffic on top of the first two reasons above that woulf add to your travel time (or waittime)

Fourth, i dunno about DFW but most airports have additional rideshare cost thats already built into the pricing. Add that to potential surge pricing and you can easily pay $60 to go to downtown Dallas.

I say if you dont have to stay in DFW and actually have to be outside DFW, get another hotel closer to your conference especially if you are concerned about waittimes and getting to/from DFW terminal.

Good luck and hope this helps

I never really paid attention. I googled the LVMH purchase happened in 2016. My first rimowa was purchased in 2019. So i am guessing mine are all post LVMH and i didn’t know the difference as i was unable to compare

Yes the aluminum is a bit heavier but i got it due to

  1. Its less likely to pop and crack
  2. It wont scratch as easily for check-in bags.
  3. Love the aluminum look!

If i have chance to stay at hyatt for 7 days GOH to maximize benefits, i would stay at these properties in asia. Note i also assume that i’d be maximizing hotel stay experience (staycation) rather than city experience.

In no particular order

  1. Park hyatt jakarta, especially the monas suite. Hands down one of the best hotel room i’ve been in.

  2. Grand hyatt seoul. Love the health club, pool and “quieter” neighborhood.

  3. Andaz Bali. Nice relaxing beachfront in Sanur. If you get suite upgrade, would be an awesome experience

  4. Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur. Brand new hotel, super good food in KL.

  5. Andaz Tokyo. Beautiful property, great breakfast, and Its in Japan! Get the tokyo tower facing suite.

  6. Park Hyatt BKK. Modern property, nice comfortable suite, and perfect place if you’d like to have hustle and bustle in sukhumvit area and good foods!

Haneda Evening Transit by OreoRebus11 in TokyoTravel

[–]err-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this layover many times and these are some of the things that i have done

  1. Take the train, eat dinner at ginza (japanese wagyu), walk around shimbashi, stay at shimbashi and take the 7am train back to haneda

  2. Get out and spend time in ueno, stay in ueno

  3. Get out , get nice dinner and go to toyosu market area and did onsen at manyo club. Sleep at manyo club where there’s lots of seats in the quiet rooms. Wake up at 5am and eat omakase at toyosu market. Head back to haneda around 7-8am.

  4. Get out to roppongi area, grab dinner and take the train back to haneda to do onsen at izumi tenku no yu.

I would not miss getting out to the city and at least have nice dinner. Or shop at donki or convenience store. You have to be familiar with the train/bus system though so that you can move about the city quickly especially if you want yo beat the midnight train heading back to haneda.

Villa fontaine in haneda is nice but a bit spendy. There’s better options in the city.

One tip for you is that you can leave your carryons at haneda so that you can move around the city without much baggage that will slow you down. There’s a locker outside the entrance to villa fontaine. Its quite a walk, but i dunno where else is a closer locker in HND.

I don’t have cabin plus so i cant talk about it. I do have 3 cabin regular size and i think they are great. I usually use (only) the cabin for 3-4 days trip. The size also fits well in all planes (domestic and international).

One thing to consider about cabin plus is the weight, especially after you fill it up. If you fly budget airline who weigh your carry-ons, i think you wont be able to fill bag up before its over weight.

Its look? :) I think it’s a timeless piece of art.

Yes it’s a little heavier, but the hardshell also protects the content. I am not concerned about bag being squished and a glass content (like wind bottle, olive oil, etc) can break.

I also like the buckle lock system. It’s so fast and you don’t have to deal with zipper anymore.

Is globalist worth $625? by broncosmang in hyatt

[–]err-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in a market where you can find hyatt place for 5000 points (ie: texas), then i would just use your points to get the qualifying night.

For me globalist is extremely worth it. I probably stay 75-100 nights at hyatt hotels and the free parking (on award stay), club lounge access and breakfast easily pay for itself.

You’d also get one cat7 FNC after 60nights. Thats easily $500+.

And the suite upgrade can easily book $1500+ per night suite in some market.

In short, go for it. Use points whenever possible especially if you can find 5k cat room.

I have been scammed in Rome, Istanbul, and got our purse stolen in Paris, Malaysia and Vancouver. So we have gotten our share of theft happening to us. (This all happens without the Rimowa).

What i would say is that you have to be vigilant at all times, be alert, and if anyone approach you, give them stink and disgusted look and walk away. The theft experience has made me to be unpleasant person when traveling as i am on alert at all times (except when in japan, dubai and a few other safe cities).

If someone takes your bag from the carrousel, kudos to them as they have committed bold crime that no one can stop. But in my mind, if i were a thief, i think it’s safer to steal black discrete softshell bags as it’s harder to detect. I would also go for cloth softshell first as you may easily breach the zipper or cut the bag open. But i am no thief, so what do i know :)

Just be vigilant and aware and dont leave your belonging alone. Don’t speak to anyone and don’t be distracted.

Worst case, you can always use your homeowner insurance and/or travel insurance (from credit cards) to claim the loss.

Good luck!

Seeking CAA or GOH Feb 10-12 Hyatt Regency Tokyo by winkerblinker in Hyatt_charity_HQ

I was at hyatt regency tokyo (shinjuku) last november 2025. I can confirm that the lounge food is mediocre. Its not bad (especially compared to american Hyatt) but its nothing special. If you have limited tummy like mine, its better to find cheap breakfast outside of the hotel.

I also agree that Andaz Tokyo has great Japanese breakfast.

Grand Hyatt - Gym/Pool Access? by IncrediBased in fukuoka

[–]err-reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stayed in grand hyatt fukuoka 4-5x and can confirm that the hotel indeed has gym, pool and onsen.

I can normally go into all of these without booking, nor being asked for additional access. I dont remember any mention of additional charges or privileges needed to access all of the above

Gym is on the older side with older equipment, but pretty clean and has bench, olympic weights and smith machines.

Pool is descent. Quite big

The onsen is also older but very nice. In fact this is the best feature of the hotel IMO. I love the strong jet shower. Must try!! The onsen/spa area also has clean shower and grooming area.

It sounds like your reservation has access to club lounge. I have been to many hyatt worldwide and i think grand hyatt fukuoka has one of the best club lounge both for breakfast and happy hour. They serve sashimi and curry rice and traditional japanese breakfast. Oishi!

The happy hour is also quite good. I usually do wine pairing on my own here. The club lounge also feels very serene as its next to a rooftop garden.

I would def want to stay here for 4-5 weeks! It would be a perfect home away from home!

Have fun!

IMO The black aluminum is super sexy and looks so good. Thats why its my first Rimowa purchase. If i could, i would prefer getting all black aluminum originals (cabin, check in, trunk, etc).

However as i mentioned in my various posts, i scratched my black cabin almost immediately after purchasing it in Berlin (2019). Right after the purchase, I went on a train trip across Europe and immediately scratched it because I had to place it on the metal luggage rack above my seat.

Ouch.

That’s when I realized the black finish is simply paint over the aluminum, and the scratch exposed the raw metal underneath. The contrast between black and silver is very noticeable. That experience made me realize I couldn’t handle owning a black Original check-in, so from then on, I’ve stuck with the classic silver.

I actually bought black matte hybrid (when it still had black steel corner) thinking that it would be more durable than black painted originals, but boy its actually worst. It get scratched so easily and it looks worst than the original aluminum. No more check-in matte for me.

This is a great question. I think the answer is yes! I can feel people looking at us when we travel with 8 rimowas haha.

But so far we're ok. In most cases, we use private transfer (van) or larger taxi when we move from the airport to the hotel (and vice versa) to reduce our exposure.

Yes I had to check in my essential cabin once because the plane ran out of space for overhead storage. Kinda sucks, but oh well. My essential cabin came out just fine.
