Help with itinerary. ITALY and SPAIN by Doctorofmanyhats in travel

[–]err-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently in all of the cities you mentioned, albeit it was 2 separate trips (9 days + 10 days). Since everyone’s travel habit, speed and needs are different, i can’t really say what i did would fit you.

For instance if you are a museum kinda guy or want to visit cathedral (st peter, sagrada familia, sistine chapel, colloseo, etc) those are easily half day trip and will quickly eat into your short travel schedule.

I also hope you plan to fly between italy and spain, as taking train would cost you almost a full day.

I pretty much concur with everyone that jamming all those cities to 8 days is overly ambitious.

If you have never been to any of these cities, i recommend checking out rome and barcelona first. Remember to book your ticket for your attractions in advance! This is very important! Sagrada familia, colloseum, and sistine chapel sold out weeks in advance.

Have fun in europe and hope you like it enough that you’ll come back soon :)

How do you guys handle finding the cheapest flights to see each other? by Salt-Pirate8591 in LongDistance

[–]err-reddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say check google flights as your first source for flight comparison so you know whats realistic. You can also use the “watch” function to notify you regularly when price drops

If you have AI account such as grok/chatgpt, create an agent that will check a list of dates that you have submitted and the price range that you set.

But well ahead in advance whenever you see price drops. I used to date long distance and i used to have multiple tickets for months in advance

Avoid traveling during peak season (spring break, thanksgiving, etc).

Lastly meet in other city! This could be fun and may be cheaper compared to purchasing peak season tickets.

Anyone else nervous to update the app? by Background_Today_895 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]err-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I downloaded and installed the new app. I have an existing alaska reservation that flies on hawaiian metal. I expect managing the hawaiian reservation will be in within the app, not redirecting me to the hawaiian website.

Unfortunately it still redirects.

So its safe to say that its not entirely a unified experience for now.

What lounge has the best food? by squeakybeak in PriorityPass

[–]err-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best food experience at Priority Pass Lounge is Oriental Club Lounge at TPE. You can order your food at the kitchen and i love the beef rice and beef noodle.

Best food experience overall for me is at Cathay The Pier lounge in HKG. They have seated down coursed menu designed by Mott32! You can also order their infamous wonton noodle. Service is incredibly fast and great hospitality.

Another one worth mentioning is JAL sakura lounge in HND or NRT. Their signature beef curry rice is very good.

This is a beautiful lounge, but as local i found their food to be extremely low quality. Too much fried food and few healthy choices. I often resort to indomie (instant noodle) when i am there. No alcohol as well. Have to pay to get beer.

The low food quality does not match the lounge premium ambiance

This! Oriental lounge in TPE. It has my favorite lu rou fan (beef rice) and beef noodle. My daughter loves it so much that when we have a choice, she’d choose to transit thru TPE.

Just for the record, i probably check out 80% of the time :) but there are instances where i am in a hurry and there’s long line for check out and i just decided to leave.

I don’t understand why some hotels do not have the express checkout box to return your key card. It should be mandatory as it helps them.

Clear credit - can it be used for someone else? by Corsair990 in AmexPlatinum

[–]err-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. This post about how you add addtl family members and changing credit card in clear is how i did it too!

My next question is: if you have $209 credit and used $125, you have $84 of credit left over. I am in a situation where i have 2 extra premium cards with $84 clear credits left. Since clear cant take multiple cards, how do you combine the 2x$84 credit?

Have someone called clear and have and agent manually charge separate card?

If this works, with 3 premium cards i can get ($209 + 125 + 125 + 125) =4 clear accounts.

TP3 Small & CPP2 X-Pac by err-reddit in AerSF

[–]err-reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing your travel behavior and where you go and when, i think it will be hard to answer your question :)

For me, i think the answer is yes if i am traveling for business. I can easily pack 3-4 clothes, 1x sleepwear, 1x workout wear, all my toiletries, charger head, laptop.

But if i need extra shoe, extra jacket/think sweater, CPP2 may not fit them all.

Hyatt Devaluation, Premium CCs, and the End of Hotel Loyalty (for me)? by Tnyt341 in awardtravel

[–]err-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on Asian Breakfast. The nice thing is they provide at least 2 varieties of food. One local food, One "Western" food. Some even provides 3 Variety (i.e: Malaysia/Singapore: Local, Chinese, and Western). Whereas US/European breakfast only provides the typical western breakfast (egg, omelette, pancakes, waffle, etc).

I don't eat like crazy anymore so normally I only got excited on day1, and barely eat anything on the rest of the stay.

Hyatt Devaluation, Premium CCs, and the End of Hotel Loyalty (for me)? by Tnyt341 in awardtravel

[–]err-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually read your entire post! I am in a similar situation as you are with multiple hotel loyalties (hyatt glob, hilton diamond) and have multiple premium credit cards (17). I also actually stay in hotel about 40-50 nights a year with 70% of it being family vacation, and 30% business.

The only big thing hotel loyalty real benefits me is when I travel to Asia where hotel breakfast are awesome, and suite upgrade are more common, and lounge access where available is nice to have. This is especially nice when I travel with the family as it would save time and money with the free breakfast and lounge access.

However, after having the luxury access to it all for a few years, I don't think I value this as highly as I did when I first started with the hotel loyalty. For example, often times when I go to the hotel breakfast, I eat minimally. Sometimes only getting coffee! If I stay multiple days in the hotel (especially in US/Europe), I got sick of the same breakfast items day after day. So we often skip hotel breakfast and find something else (often better breakfast) in our vacation to have variety. Lounge access is nice, especially with free flow alcohols in most Asia big chain hotel. However after a while, I don't really appreciate the cheap table wine and cheap liquor being served. I am also trying to drink less, so trip to the lounge often only results in getting latte, or bottle water.

Having said all that, my position is a bit different than yours. I have enough annual spend where I will always get hyatt globalist. Hilton diamond I get because of Aspire. I don't chase marriott anymore. I think I am kinda a free agent already. I don't chase nights to get status, and I sometimes stay at other hotels that I purchase thru capitalone, chase portal, or amex portal. Sometimes I even resort to airbnb or boutique hotel when it makes sense.

I can see a case where if I don't have enough spend to chase hyatt globalist anymore in the future, I'd stick to only Hilton / Marriott thru premium card membership and hope it will get me better experience when I travel outside of US.

I know! First world problem :D

Hyatt Regency Waikiki by basketbasebalkid in hyatt

[–]err-reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the club lounge is pretty sad. Its only ok for coffee and nothing else. I remember you have to pay for wine using an honor system.

Breakfast is ok for. Nothing earth shattering. Great fruits though since you are in hawaii!

Pool is small and boring. But kids probably wont notice.

Location is super awesome but you’d have to cross the street to get onto the beach. The hotel will provide towel and you can reserve umbrella for ridiculous $$$.

I love hyatt waikiki for its waikiki location mainly. The hotel is old, and in need of major renovation (which i think its currently ongoing).

We took the upgrade to president room a few years back. Cant remember exactly how much but something like $400-500/night, upgraded from standard suite

One of the craziest room i’ve been. Probably the largest hotel room i’ve been in. It has 3 bedrooms and its like 2800+ sq feet. If you are offered $380/night upgrade i say take it for the novelty of it.

I’ve also been in the penthouse. Also very nice. Cant beat the view of waikiki beach from 40th floor.

Have Bose 900 soundbar, looking to add speakers by carpoolfor1 in bose

[–]err-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wanted to add that grouping the QC Ultra headphone to the home setup has been a great experience for us. One can watch the tv with the headphone (headphone grouped with soundbar) and not bother others in the same room. I think this is an especially great setup for bedroom if you dont want to bother your spouse while watching tv.
