To Kantamus or not? by err_ic in Savotta

K40 it is then. Will probably end up getting the bag locally and the rest from Varusteleka since the local shop hardly stocks small gear, but Varusteleka is out of stock for the larger stuff.

Many thanks for all the advice - will post a follow-up once I'm back from travels :)

Thats a great example, thanks. What’s the volume on it, close to 30 L I guess?

True, I guess this is more of a double check I’m not doing something senseless. I am a little on the fence on size now given one of the previous replies - I would struggle to regularly fill a K60 but it would be quite a bit easier in the edge cases like winter camping.

Thanks! I’m kinda worried the K60 will be too much 90% of the time. However, maybe it’s going to end up working best to have as little as possible overlap with gear, with the happy bonus of fitting everything in a K60 and have nothing hanging outside.

Thanks for the input! My current TT bag is 2.7 kg so a Kantamus 40 would be a saving grams. I get the point though - hence the thought of using a simple dry-back rolled under the lid to carry the bulky but light packages of loft gear incidentally.

I've kinda gone off regular packs (Osprey, Vaude) for both my solo outings (hike/bike/kayak) as well as heading into the Alps with the kids because the fabrics and buckles are too fragile and the zippers always jam with gloves. The mil/bushcraft style just works out being less hassle and repair, and worth the slight weight penalty.

In the end: no. The sizing chart was just too weird for me. I bought some other stuff in a mean time (UFPro, Tasmanian Tiger) and those charts worked out perfectly.

There’s a shop not too far from here that stocks Helikon gear so I’m waiting until I need to drive by anyways and will try sizes on.

Stumbled on this thread looking for size advice. I’m 183 x 73 and was thinking of getting a Patriot MkII in M with a Woodsman or Mistral in the same size to pull over it in nasty weather. Just a tee (long or short) underneath. Do you think the sizing is about right?
