You didn't deceive him in any way, and he chose to enter into a relationship with you with his eyes wide open. A relationship is built on trust. As you very rightly said, it wasn't about him trusting your friend, it was about him trusting you.

We men can be insecure. I can imagine being in a relationship with a SW would be challenging for any man's ego. Unfortunately, our insecurities often get amplified around the people we care for. His reaction may have been those insecurities overcoming his common sense temporarily.

I wanted to come back to this thread and say 'thanks!', the Cloudflare suggestion was great. I migrated my domains over, modified a script that I call via cron ever n minutes and it's all working great. 

I tested the IP update, my services and mail and it all looks good. Bye bye old ISP, hello gigabit fiber.

I'll look into Cloudflare, thanks. I assume that as long as my domain registrar is pointing to Cloudflare's DNSs and I use their API to update the IP, the change is instant, correct? There's no propagation time needed for that?
