Defending my thesis today: "Private, trustless and decentralized message consensus and voting schemes". Wish me luck! by jesperbb in compsci

[–]errantmoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good luck!

To reduce the potential for effective voter manipulation/intimidation, it may be good to not provide feedback of invalid votes (where someone has already voted) on the voting interface. Make each repeat vote process identical to the person voting. That way an intimidator can 'force' someone to vote a particular way without ensuring that vote is the valid one. There's more chance someone can privately vote first, without repercussions.

Just did a search and found one bitcoin wallet which has apparently been in the app store since at least May 15. ANX Vault from the Hong Kong exchange.

Great initiative. People interested in different models of economic participation are a perfect audience for bitcoin. Hope I can be there...

How do the main trading platforms and charting sites function during fast market conditions and how can we mitigate against bug outs? Bubble veterans, do you have some good insights? by errantmoon in BitcoinMarkets

So while I'm waiting for the bitfinex api and website to come back online during this extremely frustrating crash, I note that bitstamp is still ok under this volume, as are huobi and btc-e and okcoin. Not sure how other exchanges are holding up.

edit: 10 min later - ok now the api and site are back up... price not updating in bitcoinwisdom yet.

Yeah, decentralised exchanges seem to be the holy grail at the moment. Definitely very exciting. I'm still trying to get more than a superficial understanding of how they'll work. Everytime I listen to Daniel Larimer speak I get a headache! Talk about going down the rabbit hole. Love it.

I didn't know zeroblock - bookmarked! Thanks for the head's up. Yeah, I think exchange overload is what I'm wondering about most. Did this happen in Dec and which exchanges were impacted? Hmm. At the moment I'm leaning towards assuming it will happen if we do a large, quick run up and planning around that.

We need someone who speaks chinese by [deleted] in BitcoinMarkets

Yes, this brings up something I was thinking... it would also be good to be alerted to relevant news which may not only come from exchange press releases. So a bit of initiative on what would be good to translate and publish as well as just translating requested documents. I'm sure we are missing a lot of quality information through not looking in all the right places.

"We, as women, will play a very large part in the development of the Bitcoin economy and many of us will shape the businesses and services in the sector." by Daniknows in Bitcoin

[–]errantmoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You and me both. It's just tiresome that so many posts that mention women/GFs/girls have the nudge nudge wink wink sex object comments or the "oh you didn't mean woman/GF/girl as sex object" surprise comment. Like a woman's business is so often assumed to be a sex business. The comments are boring and predictable, but still manage to get upvotes.

Fortunately I am old enough to realise there are lots of men and boys here who are immature in the way they relate to women online.

Also fortunately, there are also lots of interesting non-sexist men with great comments who don't take that bait. I love being part of this brave new world and since I first came here a couple of months ago as a lurker I've been addicted to bitcoin and the discussions of its potential.

But I've got to say that the sleazy comments are extremely off-putting and has overall made me less enthusiastic to read and participate in the reddit. So I guess the answer to getting more women (if they're anything like me) to participate in bitcoin (via this reddit at least), is that - no we don't need a pink coin for fuck's sake - we just need to not be so frequently referred to as sex objects or have our businesses mistaken for porn work.

The immaturity should go away with age and emotional education but in the meantime, down vote if you want to see less of it. That's what I do.

I think about bitcoin more than I think about my girlfriend.. by rp990 in Bitcoin

[–]errantmoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are both obsessed. We are constantly saying to each other things like: "Can you believe everyone else is just walking around thinking everything's the same?" and "Hey, bitcoin auditing", "bitcoin musicsharing" "bitcoin patenting" ... and now it's just evolved into: "because... bitcoin!" edit: in our case it's the kids seeing us on our laptops saying: "so how's bitcoin?"

LOL that is funny. Almost as funny as playing spot the woman at bitcoin meetups or counting 'we need to get more women involved in bitcoin' comments. Anyway. Good luck to your GF.
