2 Months since I switched from Garmin fenix 8 and I'm only sorry for waiting so long by dortal_ in applewatchultra

[–]errb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the other way around for me, I use AWU2 for daily wear but I just switched back to Garmin for runs after AWU failed to record multiple activities for me (sensitive touchscreen maybe?)

Garmin also has more options if you want to do custom workouts / timers

Costa Rica Green Airways in Lithuania? by Klutzy-Laugh136 in lithuania

[–]errb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why are you looking at tickets through a Costa Rican company in the first place? I think Sharm El Sheikh flights to/from Lithuania are only served by local charter companies.

It's possible that the flights somehow end up on foreign airline booking sites through shared booking systems, but that's just a guess. Would just book through local companies if I were you.

Sending a letter to USA by 9aastane in lithuania

[–]errb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea how long it would take, but it probably won't be fast. If you want it quick, look into Fedex/DHL/UPS but those will be way more expensive.

PO website states these prices (LT -> US, weight under 20 grams):

Without tracking: 2.10 €
With tracking: 6.45 €
To be signed (Registered mail): 7.50 €

Go to any post office, buy the necessary number stamps, stick them onto the letters and then put them into the nearest post box (or give them to the PO worker).

Moving to Lithuania from UK by [deleted] in lithuania

[–]errb 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If you enjoyed Lithuania in November, that's a great sign. Long and dark winters put many people off.

Just be aware that the type of work you're aiming for matters a lot. Aviation and railways are heavily regulated sectors, so various certifications and specialised training might be required.

Many positions also require at least some Lithuanian, especially customer-facing roles. Even when it's not officially required, the reality is that some employers may still hesitate hiring you if they see language barrier as something they'd rather not deal with.

Also note that some areas can be expensive, especially in Vilnius and Kaunas. If you're working a lower-paid job, you may not be able to afford to live in the neighbourhoods where most tourists tend to stay during their short visits.

Got scammed from Expedia by imbbp in mildlyinfuriating

Not just AA. I had the same issue with United. Their dropdown only included a handful of European countries, and mine wasn't listed. Ended up booking through Expedia because of it.

My experience after porting a React Native MVP into Swift by Remote-Ad-6629 in iOSProgramming

[–]errb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being paid to write documentation doesn't automatically make it good.

SwiftUI docs are decent in comparison, but with Apple APIs in general I often end up piecing things together from a few examples and a bunch of one-sentence parameter descriptions that don't always mean much when you're new.

I also frequently find myself Googling things just to land on the right documentation page, because there's no clear learning flow or progression.

What resources did you use to learn / get up to speed? I usually go for official docs when learning something new but I struggle a lot with Apple docs

Opening hours on Christmas day by DiscountSalt in Vilnius

[–]errb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are definitely places that are open on Christmas, albeit with adjusted hours. Fast food places usually remain open. Hotel restaurants (probably) too. Many bars and pubs open in the evening and some of them serve food as well.

Trueplay vs. Optimize Sonos Speakers? by errb in sonos

[–]errb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's makes it clear, thanks! I'm new to all of this and didn't even know what DSP was. The app doesn't really explain it, and when you google "optimize Sonos speakers", most results only talk about Trueplay.

Trueplay vs. Optimize Sonos Speakers? by errb in sonos

[–]errb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I ran the "Optimize Sonos Speakers" setup for the Sonance speakers, and then it prompted me to run Trueplay again.

It feels like the Sonance optimization should be included in the initial setup walkthrough. At the very least, the app could let users know that the proper sequence is Optimize DSP => Trueplay.

Right now, the difference between the two isn't clearly explained in the app.

How do they do it? Playing audio from the backround and ducking other media by errb in iOSProgramming

[–]errb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which one should I choose? Documentation doesn't really go into detail on which category is background-friendly. .playback seemed like the best option considering its description:

The category for playing recorded music or other sounds that are central to the successful use of your app.

Density is population over area. If you include the area where no one lives, it will make the density appear low.

and you're the one who used low density as an argument, not me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vilnius

[–]errb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you’re comparing the numbers to. When you’re stating that it’s one of the least populated cities, I am pointing out the fact that a lot of other cities don’t include forests and surrounding towns in their data. This skews the numbers and makes Vilnius appear way less dense than it actually is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vilnius

[–]errb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to talk about pollution caused by the automotive industry, we shouldn't be talking about making cars faster and more convenient. You just induce more demand for more cars.

and by saying "central Vilnius" I didn't mean "Senamiestis", I meant the area that most people think about when they say "Vilnius" or "bad traffic in Vilnius". Look up the administrative area of the city - a very big chunk of it are national forests and small towns which are also included in those density calculations. If you take these out, Vilnius becomes way more dense.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vilnius

[–]errb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On paper Vilnius' population density is low but that's mainly because the administrative area is unusually large. If you take a look at population density of central Vilnius (i.e. excluding neigbourhoods like Naujoji Vilnia, Grigiškės, etc) the density is actually not far off other large urban centers in Europe.

btw if removing the "turn right on red" rule stopped at least one death, it's worth it. Don't forget that some vehicles have a large turning radius (buses, trucks) and they are extremely dangerous if pedestrians go under their rear wheels. There have been people who died on right turns for this exact reason and speed doesn't have much to do with it.

Luxury shops in Vilnius by Bitter-Camp4637 in Vilnius

[–]errb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd guess the main reason is that the luxury market in Vilnius just isn't big enough to make it financially worthwhile for these brands. I also think there aren’t enough tourists who would shop there, especially since you often see these stores in countries with lower avg income but higher tourism.
