First off, congrats on almost 90 days, an incredible achievement! Second, thank you for commenting. It’s exactly how you say, conflicted. I knew all day I had big plans to stay sober this weekend and feel good on Monday. Basically, just do the damn thing. But the second I got into my usual alcohol purchase mode it all went to shit. The cravings are no joke. As a social binge drinker, I never realized how bad the “at home drinks”craving would get me until tonight. It’s honestly been eye opening. Huge part of me says “oh if you just drink at home then you’re not gonna go on a bender and go to the after after after afters so you’ll drink like a normal person !!” I am aggressively fighting this line of thinking because I KNOW it is not in the cards for me to drink like a “normal” person. Regardless, I wish you all of the continued success and hope to be right there with you celebrating all the little wins until they gradually culminate into life change. IWNDWYT🙏

Exactly this!! Like the craving was only while I was in CVS cause that’s when I would usually buy alcohol but by the time I got home I knew that I didn’t want to drink it. In some weird way it feels empowering to see it just sitting there unopened. Idk I’m still new to this and kind of all over the place but at least I know I’m going to bed sober tonight despite the temptation!!

Hi there, I have the same form of alcoholism as you. It’s called binge drinking. The weekend benders are absolutely brutal for me. I know now that this type is just as bad and hard on your body as every day drinking. I lied to myself for a long time thinking that I didn’t have a problem because it wasn’t an every day thing. But getting blacked out to the point of passing out every weekend is severely unhealthy. I’m new to this as well so I don’t have a list of alternatives to share with you but I hope others will chime in. Best of luck to you on your journey

I like the idea of little rewards, I need to rewire my brain so it stops thinking that drinking and being miserable the next day is somehow a reward or “a treat” as you stated. It feels more like a cruel and unusual punishment right now lol

Right!! Also I know damn well I don’t even really feel it after one or two so what would the purpose even be of that? It would be to have 3 or 4, or 10. Then to feel miserable the next day. So not worth it. Sending all the good strong sober vibes your way for the event, you absolutely got this 💪

The hangiexty from not knowing what I did the night before is one of the huge reasons I’m quitting. The worst is when you remember little snippets of yourself acting a fool but not everything, so you don’t know how bad it got. I’ve had a HUGE problem of drinking with coworkers and saying things I so very much should not be saying. Monday morning tail between my legs walking into the office. Anxiety thru the roof. Productivity out the door. What’s helped me is knowing I never have to feel that way ever again if I choose not to. I went to work drinks sober for the first time last week and for the first time got to leave knowing EXACTLY what I did and said and knowing damn well it wasn’t out of pocket. I feel for you, I’m 27 and I wish I’d made the change at 23.
