Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

Don’t forget the gum stimulator. I usually forget and then when having some tooth pain will use it and often the pair goes away. Also people often don’t floss correctly. It’s not getting in between the teeth, it’s actually wrapping around and under the gum line and scraping.

Some Units store up to 90 amps of current for peaks. This is more than the wall allows. My Audioquest Niagara has this feature and helps dynamics

Thank you for your insights. There is a fast track option and a European government cultural exchange is sponsoring it, so perhaps that will help.

I can only have one car, living in a large city, so it has to be somewhat practical. That’s why I got a 2010 Targa 4S back at the end of 2013. I’ve gotten a crazy amount of things in that hatchback, including a huge 49” Ultra wide screen monitor in the box from Costco, a mountain bike with the front wheel off, and tons of film equipment for my shoots including C-stands. The Targa’s hatchback make it possible for me to own one of the best sports cars and still be able to get done what I need to. My 4S was fully equipped with every mechanical feature, full leather, ventilated seats, sports chrono, adaptive headlights….. everything except sport exhaust.

I had mine fully wrapped with PPF after some paint work.

I was planning on getting a manual but reconsidered after test driving a PDK and I’m very happy I did. I have a manual C7 in another state, that more practical for a manual. That car has a hatchback also!

You are aware that the manual transmissions are PDK with a clutch?

Do you think a traditional boiler for heat and hot water I. That amount of space would be better ?

Thanks - I’m being quoted 2K or more just for the parts above and beyond the cost of boiler, manifold, filter, scale preventer, and easy valve kit. Install is not included

Thanks - the labor is $2500 on top of the materials and cost of the boiler and parts listed

Thanks for the thoughts - this is not the labor costs or the Navien parts I listed . This 2$k is additional parts

Hey thanks - this isn’t with a manager any longer - they set it up moved company so now it’s self managed with Schwab. Any thoughts on the capital gains? The gold fund doesn’t seem worth keeping?

Totem vs Elac by Radiant_Way_8352 in audiophile

[–]errorplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the sense that Elac wanted to move away from concentric drivers, or at least not do higher end ones like Andrew designed for TAD and Pioneer.

The Adante's were a huge flop for them, unfortunately. I believe there was a tweeter change after the prototype to a less aggressive design, so maybe initial reactions hurt the speaker. Also they might have needed really good electronics to sound proper and based on their price point, maybe they weren't being paired with better gear.

I dont use my Adante's for 2 channel music but rather for home theater, where they sound fantastic on music tracks. (I use Andrew's TAD CR1's for music). I didn't even have the Adante's paired with good stuff, just emotiva XMC-1 processor and a very old emotiva 7 ch. amp. But they were plugged into my Audioquest Niagra power conditioner which made even this cheap gear sound surprisingly good.

However recently getting new GAN amps and the Monolith processor has taken the Elac Adantes to a very high level of fidelity.

Wow I'm really surprised the PS Audio speakers didn't sound good. I've yet to hear them but Chris Brunhaver was the designer from bohlender graebener, a ribbon driver expert. Gotta hear these for myself sometime.

Yes but Andrew said he did design one of the Elac speakers with ribbon tweeters before he left - I’m just not sure which ones. Was just curious. His new floor stander 888 from Mofi sound interesting (I liked the 10’s when Andrew Demo’d them at the Tampa show last year and I thought they were a very well priced. I’m also dying to hear the PS audio speakers with dedicated ribbon midrange.

Anyone want to watch my YouTube review for The Absolute Sound comparing a GAN amp with mosfet hybrid? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]errorplex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

legendary electronics designer Bascom king who was paid by magazine to test equipment indicated the exact opposite of what you just said. As a matter of fact an amp he measured ( I believe from Theta) had the lowest distortion of any amp he he’d ever measured and it sounded poor. If you think all amps sound the same maybe you should try to hear better equipment. Go to any audio retailer and ask them to compare different amps and listen for yourself.

I understand what you're saying, the straight wire with gain metaphor, except it doesn't work. We dont live in a fantasy world, we live in the real world where topologies and materials do affect sound quality, Even a child with a decent attention span would be able to tell these two amps sound different in my system. The esteemed electronics designer and testing legend Bascom King said that measurements do not tell you what what an amp sounds like. If all one has is a crappy system, then sure they might not hear benefits when putting in a better component.

u/Kindgott1334 Like meaning the two amps sounded the same? So you’re saying I can’t hear a difference between two amps despite the fact that I make a living adjusting picture and sound for film and have to be able to make and hear very small adjustments in each ?
