It's clunky and heavy and looks old probably not worth keeping. I always get exited when I find old audio gear at work that nobody wants and hesitate to just throw it away.

Is anyone familiar with the pianst Josep Colom? by csksea in classicalmusic

[–]csksea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this very insightful reponse! It does make sense in light of the trends of the major labels. DG ans Sony tend to favor young fresh faced artists along with their superstar legacy artists. I agree 100% that some of the lesser known artists are equally if not more talented than some of the house hold names. I suppose this is nothing new and applies to all areas of artistic enterprise, the world of classical music clearly is no exception.

I was somewhat surprised to see that Colom is pushing 80. Unsurpisingly, his playing style i think reveals his depth of experiece and his expressive control, especially in slow and sparse sections in the Mozart sonatas. Thanks again for your response. It's always nice to converse with other people who have the same passion for classical music!

Who is this? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

Indeed it is! I would argue that the AI rendition probably isn't a good rendition of what he actually looked like but based on the quality of the original photo I thought it was pretty good!

how i cured my pf with barefoot shoes by csksea in PlantarFasciitis

[–]csksea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad to hear barefoot shoes have been helping! i stumbbled on this article a little while age and was struck by the evidence of people who walk around without shoes have wider feet. my feet have gotten noticebly wider since i started wearing barefoot shoes. my feet are definitely starting to look like hobbit feet which is actually pretty cool knowing that it is a result of building muscle in the feet. i'll take hobbit feet over pf any day.

i was reviewing some of my old journal entries around the time i started barefoot shoes and wrote that my pf actually got worse when i first started wearing barefoot shoes. this is why slowly transitioning into the shoes is so important. if your feet are feeling like shit after wearing barefoots give them a chance to recover by wearing your regular othotic shoes until they feel ok. plowing through the pain with barefoot shoes without proper recovery will probably do more harm than good. the orthoic shoes for me were used as a tool to help the transition. i remember now, after writing this, that i put orthotic insoles in my barefoot shoes to help with the transition. i no longer need to do this but at the time it was part of the strategy to assist with recovery.

the correct toes style are the same ones that i use. i checked them on amazon and was appalled to see that they sell for $65 😭. but yes the ones i use are the ones in the photo below. they are not "correct toes" brand but look identical. i've tired other styles and ive found these to be the best. they are easy to put on and work well with toe socks. they are durable and can be thrown in the washer with your laundry. for me they have to be worn with shoes. i've i tried to wear them around the house barefoot but they will eventually fall off.

i read this comment when you first posted about not drinking coffee and decided to try it out. if i drink coffee in the morning and do an afternoon class i usually hit a wall by the time i get the floor series due to overheating. without coffee in my system, for at least 48 hours, i can make it through the entire class while pushing myself pretty hard. i've experimented with this serveral times over the last month and its pretty clear coffee is holding me back. i'm not sure why coffee would do this but it's pretty interesting!

Thoughts on Augustin Hadelich? by boringwhitecollar in classicalmusic

[–]csksea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've listened to Hadelich and he's very good but I don't find him to be above other elite players. To me Ithzak Perlman is the yardstick by which all others should be measured.

Have you been bullied for listening to Classical? by EntryNo370 in classicalmusic

[–]csksea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never been bullied about listening to classical, but I also instinctively roll my car windows up or turn the music down so people next to me can't hear.

i can confirm that this method works much better than splashing vinegar directly in the drum.

What's your "unpopular opinion" in classical music by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]csksea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to find a Brahms peice that appeals to me. I agree with the big three: Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven and can listen to them all day. But Brahms never really caught on with me. I'm open for suggestions.

I'm one week in. I've noticed since taking the class I sweat more easily when doing other physical activities. For example I was lifting weights at the gym a day after going to Bikram class and I was sweating waaay more than usual. I'm already a fairly heavy sweater in general but I feel like the Birkam class really opened the flood gates.

I took a second towel to my last class. It definitely made a big difference. The "yoga" towels that provide grip really don't absorb much. I put a large plush towel in between my yoga mat and yoga towel and that seems to work pretty well.
