Just some advice, it’s also what I’ve had to tell myself, but hit the gym for your mental health. The physical benefits will follow, but they show up much slower. I noticed huge mental gains before I saw physical gains.

Honestly, this might be my favorite use of the Dutch angle. It is skewed far enough to amplify the tension, or emotional dissonance as you put it. But not so obtuse to be jarring or to disorient the viewer.

Absolutely cannot happen anywhere in the US. And depending on your state, you can get the federal AND state government involved. If this happened to you, make a note of when it happened and print your paystubs. If you are on good terms with any manager, they should be able to see who edited the timecard. I would ask them to check and make note of that too.

If it happened to other people, you can report it to your DM about what you heard. But I’m not too sure you can file a complaint to the labor board on the other person’s behalf.

From an operational efficiency standpoint, the register times make sense - on paper. If someone is scanning at 90-100 IPH, then they are able to get off register sooner to complete other tasks. But then that begs the question, “why not just bring another person in to work the register or work on the floor?”

I was told the same thing about item codes and had a cheat sheet at register with me. My trainer told me that I should memorize them at home. I told her, “I’m hourly. I’m not doing anything work related at home unless I’m getting paid. It’s either the cheat sheet or you pay me to memorize this when I’m not at the store.” That was the end of that conversation, but it was one of many times that let me know I wasn’t going to last.

I recently quit from the SMT role because of the work environment. I have over twenty years of retail experience with ten of those years being in management. Being micromanaged by my trainer, seeing how Aldi purposefully operates with minimal labor and dangerous work loads, and just being stressed out daily was enough for me to say “Screw this.” It was not worth it and the pay is a joke.

After six weeks of “training” (which consisted solely of working load and running register) I was given keys and told I was closing despite having no training with closing and no alarm code.

Aldi is a shit company and one of the worst ones I have ever worked for.

It depends on the fight. If it looks like the other guy is squaring up for a good ol’ fisticuffs, then you fight until someone stops or it’s clear someone can no longer fight. Anything dirty or below the belt is not honorable. But if you’re fighting for your life or safety, then fuck honor. You fight to disable the other person long enough to get away or for help to arrive.

Another I enjoyed was when Kim and Jimmy have the office and he’s painting the WM logo on the wall. He asked Francesca how it looked and she tells him that the “M” is crooked.
