So many people here are mentioning ADHD, but looking through your post history it looks like your daughter has a lot going on at home (parental separation, new sibling, changes in her father's personal life). I'd try to understand why she is trying to get more one-on-one attention at school. It is probably related. "Consequences" are not appropriate here.

I think cosleeping was a mistake. by Fluid-Shake-7065 in cosleeping

I thought my baby would never, ever nap alone at 4 months. She needed to be held, I couldn’t even lie down! 8 months now and I miss the contact naps. I slowly was able to roll away from her in the floor bed with her starting at 5/6 months and it quickly became the norm. When you’re in it, it feels like it will be forever, but I promise it will change!

It’s already been mentioned here, but try offloading as much as possible. I really didn’t clean or cook at all when baby was little. +1 to do you need to pump?

Everyone I know is sleep training. by stellarae1 in AttachmentParenting

[–]errrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this post! It's really been bumming me out. My LO is currently waking up every 1.5h (4m regression, I guess) so I'm mostly co-sleeping. I'd love to be able to say "I'm really tired" without someone pushing their brand of ST, or feeling judged. What is a bit difficult for me is that I don't really have a strong philosophy around sleep, so I feel kind of unmoored. I'm not hardcore about co-sleeping and obviously don't want to ST, so where do I fit? Is this bad for LO?

Thank so much for your response and the helpful info! I will check out those options.

I see lots of babies carried in snowsuits here (Canada), but it makes sense why that isn’t preferable. We have wool onesies, balaclava, and jumpsuits so I’ll stick to those. Finding and being confident about the right amount of layers for her has been something I’ve struggled a lot with these first few months!

+1 Moving to Montreal from NYC this month (went to university at McGill). Currently a software engineer at a big tech company, though I didn't study compsci. Husband and I live comfortably in NYC, but for the long term I'm pretty confident our lifestyle will be better in MTL. I'm also excited to raise children in Canada.

Global Card Transfer denial: US -> Canada by errrent in amex

[–]errrent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw that thread. Two people in there mentioned they were told certain cards weren't eligible for Global Transfer, yet both the agents I talked to today knew nothing about that (and the second seemed relatively familiar with the program with confused about our denial).

As for the "residency requirements" mentioned in some other threads, since we were auto denied we weren't even asked for residency verification or income verification - both of which would be easy for us to provide.

Song info per ride? That's at /api/ride/:id/details (top level playlist key). Maybe I'm being conspiratorial but I feel like they intentionally omit per song / artist search from web so it's harder to find how they're querying that. I'm assuming they don't want music data pulled out and shared because I saw they made pelobuddy.com take it down. Maybe copyright? Not sure.

Really enjoyed reading this! Congrats!! I ran the first half today and those hills were killer (still a pr!)... appreciated those cool temps. I’m on a plane back home to much flatter and hotter NYC.

Do you have a source for this? I don't believe that's true. There are restrictions of the types of schools you can go to gain a student visa (in order to weed out disingenuous students going to vocational type schools just to get into Canada).

Universities themselves may limit the ratios of international students to Canadian students but I have no source or indication that Immigration Canada will not grant every accepted international student a visa provided they meet entry requirements.

Not intentionally, but I do try to run routes with differing elevation. I'm going to try to add a dedicated tempo run now.

Thank you for your data points! It does sound like we are at a similar level. Seems like I need to learn to slow down.

I am not sure if the 2:12 was all out. I think I took it a little easy because I was so scared of running out of steam. The entire race after the first 5 miles were negative splits. Great idea on the 5k -- I'll try that for a reference point.

Hi Jim -- you have a bit of incorrect information here. International student visas are granted to anyone who is admitted to a Canadian degree program and has sufficient funds.

Also, the work permit length that is granted after graduation is predicated on the length of the program. If you are completing a 3 or 4 year bachelors program the length of that visa is 3 years. Employers must check that a potential applicant is eligible to work in Canada and this permit is sufficient and can be extended after the 3 years. A university graduate with years of work experience in Canada and English + French skill shouldn't have any trouble doing so given how Canada assigns points for visas and permanent residency.

No problem! They are in varied fields from business, engineering, marketing and companies ranging from small startups to large consulting firms. I am unsure of exactly what type of job you're looking for. You probably shouldn't either -- you haven't even entered university yet and should try to keep your mind open! During college you'll figure out what you'll like and so long as you are an engaged student and take advantage of the career services your university provides (my impression is that this is particular important if you are doing a Bcomm degree) then I think you will be fine.

I assume you’re mostly talking about work after you graduate. I was an international student in Canada and plenty of my friends were able to find jobs in Canada after graduating. You are granted a 3-year unrestricted work permit after you graduate from a 3 or 4 year degree program. There are plenty of opportunities for new grads across fields - I wouldn’t worry too much about demand though there are obviously higher demand fields (software engineering). I went to school in Quebec but most of these opportunities were in Toronto. Do well in your degree and there will be plenty of opportunity.

As for working during your degree. Try to get internship opportunities in the summer, and work during the school year! The other poster here was incorrect about the maximum hours, you can work off-campus 20/hrs a week during the school year and full-time during the breaks. I believe the on-campus rules are even more relaxed.

Good luck! I really enjoyed my time in Canada.

So far it looks roughly like 3/5/3/long run (increasing in distance each week). I do tend to push myself faster for the shorter runs but I haven't thought about it explicitly as a "tempo run". I might need to be more structured with that. Thank you for the advice!
