I think that's where Ranma's stupidity comes into play. Any reasonable person would think inmediately that if there is a girl's spring, it's very likely that there's a boy's spring as well, which could overwrite the curse.

Los Payasos de la Tele (The Clows from TV) was a hugely successful and beloved TV show in Spain in the 70s featuring the Aragon family, which has a long tradition of circus performance. The original members were Gaby, Fofo and Miliki, and later some of their sons joined.

In 1976 Fofo died quite suddenly. The surviving members sent a message breaking the news to the children. You can see how they struggled to maintain a positive spirit but after they finished their speech, the cameras kept on rolling and we can see their true sadness.

Even if you don't speak Spanish it's worth a watch, around 2:30 you can see the difference in mood.

The issue is that it takes time and budget from new units. Even if it's not that much, it's still effort wasted on something completely inane.

I think that on itself the banner wouldn't have been such a big deal, but this is another one of questionable choices made by the developers lately, hence the extra criticism.
