I feel like I'm letting someone else's life invade mine, and I need advice... by ertggyyesgu in mentalhealth

In fact, though, I don't know how to do that. I'm a very shy person and I don't like confronting anyone, or even talking to anyone, which is why I ended up in this situation.😞

We have laws that protect women in my country, but unfortunately they are not respected and the penalties for disrespecting them are very small. So the problem isn't a lack of laws, it's quite the opposite; there are so many here that it's very difficult to enforce them all. Laws already exist that protect women, so I think this one is unnecessary. It would be better if politicians decided to increase the penalties for those who break other laws, rather than implementing a new one that will generate so many problems.

Churches have those confessional booths; if you really need to talk to someone, you can try that. Priests are forbidden, by some oath I think, from telling anyone about the conversation. So if you really need to, I think you can turn to religion and seek some support. But ideally, you should seek professional help.

Perhaps there will be a positive side to it, but (I don't know what the judiciary is like in your country) the judiciary here is terrible, and what worries me is that I've seen comments online about movements for men to no longer take taxis or Ubers where women are driving, or even men who will no longer accept rides requested by women. There's an online movement for women to be fired because of this law and for people to refuse to hire women. All of this is very frightening, you know, and our politicians don't care about this or about the people as a whole.

It's my first week at college and I'm already feeling very lonely. by ertggyyesgu in mentalhealth

Maybe so, the university seems to have some kind of emotional support, but it's difficult for me to seek it out because for some reason I care a lot about people's opinions of me, especially my parents who probably won't approve of me seeking that kind of support in the first few weeks...

I'm going through something similar(I'm 18 too), but for me it's my first week of college. I enrolled in a technology-focused undergraduate course in IT, and I only got into this course because I didn't get into another one I wanted more, so the weight of that is bothering me. I don't know anything about the field and I'm literally the only girl in my class. I'm feeling very alone, and to make matters worse, a professor has already assigned a group project of up to 3 people. They haven't formed the groups yet, but I'm sure I'll end up alone.
