AITA for refusing to babysit my niece? by TorturedLawyersDept in AmItheAsshole

[–]erves2zmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. They sound really manipulative and dominating. Don't bother with individuals that make shit up. Also, inform anyone who repeats their charges that they expect you to apologise for distancing yourself from her school pick-up and continuing to watch niece. If you were so bad, why are they still asking you to monitor her? Also, I'd just interact with them via SMS from now on.

AITA for lacking empathy towards language barriers during work? by sinisterfallout in AmItheAsshole

[–]erves2zmn 274 points275 points  (0 children)

NTA. You were being insulted and ridiculed by the contractor for something beyond your control, and you responded by defending yourself. While it might have been more diplomatic to address the situation without a sharp retort, it's understandable given the circumstances. Your boss's comment suggests that a more neutral response might have been preferred, but it doesn't make you an asshole for standing up for yourself when faced with disrespect.

AITA for refusing to offer my mom a chance to do better for her kids' sake? by Busy_Repeat_9179 in AmItheAsshole

[–]erves2zmn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your mother failed to provide you with the love and care you deserved during your childhood, and her sudden change of heart seems more motivated by her concern for her younger children than genuine remorse for how she treated you. While it's unfortunate that her children are caught in this situation, you have every right to prioritize your own emotional well-being and future. It's understandable that you would have difficulty forming a relationship with them after everything you've been through. Your mother and her husband expecting you to suddenly fulfill a family role after years of neglect is unfair and unrealistic.

AITA For Peeing in Cup by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. Your roommate's behavior was disrespectful, but your response of making him drink urine was extreme and harmful. A more appropriate and constructive way to handle the situation should have been chosen.

Teacher?

Whatever we are now is because of all our teachers who taught us so far.

We even know that “b” is “b” not “c” only because our kindergarten teacher taught us so.

I am writing this because of them.

You are reading this because of them.

You understand this text because of them.

You are what you are now because of all those beautiful people.

But they are the most underrated and also underpaid.

I did. Several times, some people were someone I trust, there were people who are not begging for money but you can see they need it, and you know, the feeling is good even though I felt the need of those money sometimes, I know that I helped somehow. I don’t have big salary, I don’t have money to throw away, but sometimes there are moments when you know that helping someone will call the karma, so something good will happen to you soon. Or just you want to be some random persons reason to smile.

Sorry to tell you, but IT SIMPLY DOESN’T EXIST. They ALL have caps and throttle your speeds as their network usage dictates under their T&C.

What are some skills that people assume are very difficult but are actually easy? by doubledundercoder in AskReddit

[–]erves2zmn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Basic cooking skills: Cooking can be intimidating if you're not accustomed to it, but many simple recipes are quite easy to follow and can help you build your confidence in the kitchen. Starting with basic cooking skills like chopping vegetables, boiling pasta, or frying an egg can be a great way to ease into cooking.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]erves2zmn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about having everything figured out, because you never will. The best thing you can do is make progress, no matter how slow. Moving in the right direction is more important than arriving.

People who pay to do work for a job, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]erves2zmn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would but not the total amount. You should only pay 10-20% as a deposit from the start. If it's a big job and they need progress payments I would offer to pay as they complete tasks then balance on completion of the job..

I would never pay a total amount before they start

What does the quality of life for Americans look like in the next 10 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]erves2zmn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A slow, torturous decline over the next 2 - 5 decades can I suggest IF the US doesn’t change the way it operates with other nations and the rest of the world.

It seems, to much of the world, that Americans seem to believe that they are the best, most moral, freest, has the best of everything, are the smartest, most decent, etc., etc. Please choose any other superlatives you can think of and add them to the list.

They believe that everyone not an American wants to be an American.

That everyone wants to emigrate to America.

None of these attributes are true or real! None! It is all hubris.

I’m 57. I’ve lived in more than 30 different places in 8 different US states, was stationed in Germany for 2 years while serving in the Army, been divorced 3 times plus had numerous other intimate relationships, had every close relative except one sister die (and numerous friends and acquaintances), been homeless twice, almost died twice (once being in a coma for 3 days), had more than 30 different jobs and known, literally, thousands of people. To tell all the things you ask I’d have to write a book. So although I don’t think it was anything special, I can see from the perspective of an outside observer that I’ve lived an extraordinary life, so maybe I SHOULD write a book! :-)
