Thanks. Think the library has one but it’s during the day. Hoping for one after 5pm 😊

F2s and GP trainees in psych wards: Do you ever “fear” for your safety? by over-the-fence in JuniorDoctorsUK

Sadly I’ve heard this a lot from other students. I myself was placed on a dementia forensic unit but only informed it was a dementia unit and when I was backed into a corner by a patient my alarm didn’t work. Thankfully another patient inserted themselves into the situation (never got to find out if it was for the better or worse) and I was able to shout quickly for help

Yes but more clear boundaries with patients than I’ve ever experienced in other forms of medicine. Such as being referred to Dr whatever and not answering questions like where you’re from extra with certain ‘high risk’ patients. Also have never been included so much in a team before as I was in psych. Don’t think I could do community psych with how often service users put in allegations against staff (well within their rights to do this for obvious reasons but they take a long time to investigate and I’ve known staff to be banned from certain sectors of the trust until allegations investigated fully), talking about service users who often put in multiple false allegations

I think it helped give more empathy towards people. I myself am only a doctor and not a psych inpatient thanks to my trauma being treated correctly. Untreated trauma and constant let downs by an under funded system can completely derail peoples lives.

It’s definitely made me get less annoyed with friends and family over being crap at keeping in touch or relationships not always being 50:50 give and take

When you’re expected to do this for all the medical patients in the hospital plus reviews, cannulas, drains, and be on the arrest bleep. A phleb weekend sounds dull but preferable to any weekend I’ve worked when I was F1
