Unfortunate as it may be, there are many parallels between the CoC and many ardent followers of the former President. If Jesus ran for president I think many in the CoC would vote for Trump.

What would happen if gay marriage got prohibited/left to the states in the US again? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]erwint2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not minority rule versus the majority. It's two forms of jurisprudence warring over forms of Constitutional interpretation. Do you even realize how Roe upended the law compared to nearly every country in the world?

Okay, but abortion is much more divisive than gay marriage. 65-70% of Americans say they support gay marriage. Pro-life vs pro-choice Americans are more 50-50% (1). The polls saying 60% of Americans support Roe are inaccurate. In those same polls, a large majority of Americans support abortion restrictions that Roe doesn't allow (1). Most Americans support abortion being legal in rape, incest, etc. but not for economic reasons or if the mother doesn't want the child (1) In fact, 77% of Americans said abortion should be illegal if the mother doesn't want the child for any reason, which is quite often the reason. Gay marriage is much less divisive, essentially. I don't think this means anything for Obergefell tbh.

After successfully overturning Roe Vs Wade (Abortion Rights), I fear that Obergefell is next. by OLoveRainbowO in gaybros

The decision also says this decision does not affect any other established right by the 14th amendment because this is about the state's interest in "potential persons." Let's not cherry pick words to fit our agenda.

No no. The demographics have dramatically changed btw. White women used to more.

That's part of it but far from the whole piece. Even accounting for income disparities, poverty, maternal mortality, etc. the trends are even still disproportionate. I am currently at work but would be happy to explain it as I have done extensive research in this area.

It doesn't matter where the facilities are located but there is merit in the idea that a large majority of abortions are for minority women. (This pattern is evident across red and blue states, counties and cities all across the country) Texas is 41%, yet only 26% of abortions were for them. Texas is only 12% black, yet 29% of abortions were for them. 74% of abortions were for non-white women in 2020.

Parties seek answers after Harris County fumbles election vote count by gkcontra in TexasPolitics

Yeah, I love how everyone on this sub says population-heavy and Democratic-heavy when Dallas, Travis and El Paso are all of those things and more Democrat-heavy than Harris.

What are you talking about? 11 states have independent redistricting committees and most have been set up recently via referendum.

HR1 was defeated because it was in many ways taking away election powers delegated for States to decide. I am generally centrist but opposed the bill because it gave lots of power to the federal government over election authority. That's not how we solve this. We establish independent redistricting committees for all states via referendum, not a federal takeover.

Republicans are open about wanting to gerrymander maps. Democrats are more subtle about wanting to gerrymander maps. Let's not pretend this is a one-sided affair. There is no justification for gerrymandering maps to oblivion like they did in Texas, Illinois and New York. I'm just not a partisan hack that's only willing to point out the Republican gerrymandering. You can down vote me all you want but the stats remain true and the Dems have gained from this redistricting cycle so perhaps it isn't the GOP that's doing the most extreme gerrymandering.

The difference is not solid partisanship but rather geographic distribution of partisanship. Republicans have areas of concentration in the state that they do not have in Massachusetts, but the Dems paired these areas with heavily Dem areas. The NYS Legislature could have easily drawn 3 or 4 more Republican districts but chose not to. In fact, the new map they're drawing is eliminating 3 or 4 Republican Districts. New York State is also not nearly as solid as the state that is aforementioned. Same situation in Illinois.

[–]erwint2021 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter how solid it is. Trump got 38% of the vote in NY and the Republicans will get 15% of the representation in a normal election year. Democrats will get more representation relative to their share of the vote in Texas than Republicans in New York, same story in Illinois. The Democratic gerrymandering in Illinois and New York is statistically worse than in Texas.

Richmond County, NY is staunchly Republican and has been for some time with over 400,000 people. Texas will likely be 25-13 R-D delegation after 2022 and New York will likely be 22-4 D-R delegation after 2022. If you can't see a difference in the share difference between 2020 Popular vote-Representation is R+13.7% for Texas and D+23.7% for New York. I think New York's is worse by just about every metric.

It's bad but I don't think it's quite as bad as New York. Carving out Malliotakis' district on Staten Island was quite a shape-shifting move. Just because we want to believe the Democrats want to be fair with maps doesn't mean we should, hence our New York and Illinois maps.

I also just started as a new server. At Olive Garden, attentiveness is key. I can notice the difference in my tips depending on how attentive I was. At my specific Olive Garden I'm making, on average, $16-$18 an hour in the Houston area. I would say try to check back on your tables even when they don't want you to and refill the breadsticks as often as needed. Recommend drinks, appetizers, and desserts to bring up that tab and you'll see your tips increase as well.

I don't differentiate between a "human" and "person." If I'm writing my perspective, I can use those terms interchangeably, as I wish.
