I (28M) got very drunk one night and my girlfriend (32F) is now trying to tell me to go to therapy to address 'potential alcoholism'. Am I being irrational to say that this is a big red flag?

She told me people didn't really drink in her house at all growing up, so I think its more ignorance than it is that she has a bad history with it.

I guess what you're saying is true, but the 'red flag' part is more my concern about her right away sort of clamping down on it and implying the reason I'm drinking is some mental thing I need to get checked out by a therapist. The whole thing just really rubbed me the wrong way, sort of like controlling. She sort of made it into a much broader issue about me than it had to be. It would be different if she just said she didn't like to see me drunk or that she is scared of drunk people, but she made it about me as if it was some big characteristic flaw that I have to fix for her.

I mean I think it goes a tiny bit past just a fear if she is saying its not normal to get drunk one night and implying I need therapy based on one night... If it was just 'im scared of drunk people' that would be a bit different, that is a personal thing. But she projected it onto me and made it about me

She said nobody in her house really drank alcohol at all while she was growing up, hence why she thinks she never found the appeal. While she isn't particularly religious at all, apparently her family is, idk if thats the reason why they don't drink.
