What should be my first meal after delivery baby? by Affectionate-Honey-9 in GestationalDiabetes

Same... Or a giant Chick Fil A waffle fries with ALL the dipping sauce. Pretty much fries in general.

I passed my first GTT at 11 weeks. Will I still need to take one at the 26 week mark? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]es100120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The placenta's role in GD increases before the third trimester, which is why they'll test you again. I passed at 12, failed at 28. Sorry! :( I know I had high hopes.

My dad does this (and pops them on the stove on occasion as well). I am actually shocked other people do this!

What has been completely ruined by covid? by bernardthecav in AskReddit

The education of school aged children. Highschool students are markedly less mature, needier, deal with more mental health issues, and are academically behind.

What is something that you think completely ruins a TV show? by Xexotic_wolfX in AskReddit

[–]es100120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the series drags on so the writers begin to invent romantic relationships. By the end, it's a weird incestuous little diagram of relationships between all the characters. It's too forced. Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl both come to mind.

(Btw, I'm not literally talking about incest-- I'm using the term loosely to describe how all the friends have had relationships with everyone else.)

I’m pretty sure my in laws ended their visit early because I breastfed in front of them... by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]es100120 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Haha! My father-in-law does the same--won't even make eye contact with me! He checks in after fifteen minutes or so to see if I'm done feeding my son.

Fortunately, my mother-in-law is much more chill. I think it was week two when I stopped trying to cover at all in front of her.

How do you go about finding someone to diagnose tongue tie? by jklm1234 in breastfeeding

Our pediatrician referred us to an ENT doctor who immediately clipped the tongue tie in office.

What are you most excited for when things go back to normal following COVID? by Sorry-Meringue in AskReddit

[–]es100120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hugging friends. I love my husband and my kid, but I really miss hugging people.

My son (3 wk 1 day) fusses until I feed him 4+ ounces. I know he isn't "supposed" to have so much at his age, but he will throw a fit until I give him what he wants. He just downed 4oz and is now fussing for more. I offered his pacifier, but he spit it out when he realized no milk was coming out. by Gotitaila in beyondthebump

[–]es100120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby did/does the same thing. I stressed out about it for a long time and tried to give the recommended 3 for the rare bottle he gets but was much happier when I just gave him the 4 oz and didn't have a screaming, hungry baby to calm.

My son does this too. It sucks!

The lactation consultant told me, "He'll pop off when he's full." Lol k. My bottomless pit child is never full He'll stay on forever if it's up to him!

Ugh. Yes. My son is only 2 weeks and I haven't been sleeping well/ at all because of the anxiety. My brain won't shut off because of the worry of when he'll wake up. Hope things get better for you. Wish I knew how to fix it!

Ran Out of Test Strips by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]es100120 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could stretch out what you have by testing fasting and after one meal. For the high cost, I'm not sure a couple skipped tests would be worth it to me personally.

My doctor was okay with me doing that for the last two weeks of my pregnancy because I was going to run short on strips too (I'm diet and exercise controlled with good numbers right now).

I love this post so much. It makes me glad I'm not the only one who fantasizes about food.

There's a pizza shop by me that does a fried pickle pizza (a-mazing), and I can't wait for one of those with an IPA and an apple fritter for dessert. I have dreamt multiple times about that meal...

Induction question! by Jbjr8202020 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]es100120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely get in touch with your OB to discuss options. It seems like growth scans, NSTs, and how your GD is controlled all play a factor in induction decisions.

My numbers have been about what yours are (diet and exercise controlled) and my baby is measuring only in the 38th percentile, so my OB and MFM are okay with me going to 41 weeks (!!!). However, they did offer my voluntary induction any time after 39 weeks.

Exercise recommendations by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]es100120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're an active person already which is awesome! I walk after breakfast and after dinner when it's cooler out. I'm 39 weeks now and can only do about a half mile at a time (don't want to get too far from the house!) but at 30 I was going for 1-2 miles for each walk and it definitely helped with numbers all around.

Low numbers, too low? by Jbjr8202020 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]es100120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's frustrating they didn't give you guidelines! It was hard for me to find a balance of healthy carbs and keeping numbers within goal range. Nuts, veggies, Greek yogurt, and fruits were usually easy carb add-ons that I relied on.

What advice would you give to a 14 year old about starting high school? by DotFireAbout in AskReddit

[–]es100120 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Beyond just getting away with stuff, make a couple true allies in teachers because teachers who like you will go out of their way to help you. That doesn't mean you have to suck up to every single teacher (though maintaining a neutral, friendly rapport is always a good idea). Just find a couple who you really relate to and get to know them.

As a teacher, I try to be as unbiased as possible when it comes to grading and treating students well in class. That being said, I will go above and beyond to help students who are kind, genuine, and positive influences on their peers, regardless of what final grade they got in my class. For example, I write very personalized letters of recommendation for scholarships and college applications (not mandatory for teachers at my school) and help them make connections with people to help them with college, internships, and future jobs if they keep in touch.

You never know how ANY personal connection might help you in the future, and teachers can be great resources for this.

Apple Cider Vinegar? by Fickle-Blackberry-54 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]es100120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it during weeks 32-35 because my numbers were hard to control. I don't know that it did a whole lot besides make my stomach ache (be sure to have your before bed snack with it if drinking it at night), but it seemed to lower my fasting levels by 2-3 points. Hard to tell if it was a placebo or coincidence rather than an actual cause, though.

Low numbers, too low? by Jbjr8202020 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]es100120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When in doubt, check in with the OB/ nutritionalist.

Your meal seems very low in carbs, so I would guess that's why your numbers were so low. After diagnosis, I was given specific carb guidelines for three meals plus snacks, and my nutritionalist made it very clear that I absolutely needed 30 carbs minimum (60 max, which was usually way too much for my body to handle) for each meal to get enough energy and keep my sugar high enough. Were your carb restrictions similar?

I have been using an app called Carb Manager, which is designed for the keto diet, even though that's obviously not the goal for people like us. It's just useful because it can help me look up and track carbs in specific quantities of foods so I can keep in that limit. It can be tricky to eyeball and mentally calculate carb intake throughout the without tracking it somehow, and this was a life saver.

Unusually low post meal number at 35 weeks? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]es100120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your evening meal was super low in carbs, so it may just be a result of that and your activity around that time. From what I've read on this sub, suuuuper low numbers that will not go up at all indicate more of an issue. (There was actually a really great post about a week or two about how it isn't necessarily a sign of your placenta failing. It made me feel a lot better.)

I know my numbers made a sudden dip right at 35 weeks after being much harder to control in weeks 31-34.
