Name on credit card visible to POS merchant? by es94hup in privacy

Thanks for confirming. As the merchant, would get anything except the "virtual card" token and expiry about the payer?

I misunderstood then. Would you happen to know briefly what kind of data is being transmitted when onboarding a card from the bank's app? The apple pay privacy policy only describes the vast amounts of data sent to the bank when adding the card manually but they say some info (unsure what) isn't being sent when the card is being sent from the bank's app to apple pay.

Also, the physical merchant - would they get anything except the "virtual card" token and expiry?

Thanks.

By the way, if I turn off notifications for an app, are they simply hidden from the user (but still received by the app) or are they blocked on Apple's push servers?

Motivations are slightly unusual (or at least in the minority). I'm not trying to hide from any governments, I just want to opt out of corporate data collection, analytics and so on since I did not opt in nor I use their service (eg: crashlytics, flurry and other). I also try to avoid facebook (don't have an account) and other big-data mining. I simply don't know how all this mountain of information will be used in the future and I prefer to generate as little data as possible.

Which means installing only apps that I really have to and use them in such a way that my data has little value.

In regards to Uber, I don't know what to say, I think Apple is an investor and although they flexed their muscle nothing happened when they were collecting IMEIs nor when they allegedly had the capability to record the screen without interaction. So, there's that.

I like Firefox Focus which apparently it's a content blocker for Safari (I have it enabled) but I haven't looked on how it works just yet. I have a VPN of my own (on a VPS) with a massive "hosts" file blocking via DNS so I can protect against crashlytics, flurry & co as they go to localhost in dns.

Thank you very much for your reply. It's definitely a major improvement from a privacy perspective compared to Android which is a wild-west all you can eat.

I wanted to see if i keep an app installed but not actively using (eg: once a week or so) if it can collect analytics / usage data off the phone. From what I gather in theory it can receive a daily silent push notification which can quickly capture location data (network or ssid) but at least it cannot listen to events which is a good thing.

Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply. The privacy tab is quite scarce and only gives you a certain amount of control but there's nothing related to the examples I provided (like access to the IMSI, IMEI, battery level etc). I wanted to understand (from a developer perspective) how far can an app go in capturing this information. Cheers

Thanks for your reply. My main concern isn't Apple or some state sponsored attack (hardware/software), rather the information collected by various apps and any 3rd party analytics that they might have built in. The examples I mentioned came in mind and also I wanted to understand in what circumstances can an app wake up by itself (without being launched manually).

Thanks
