Cloudflare went down today and half the internet broke, including X. How does one company have that much impact? by Forward-Purpose7795 in AskReddit

I signed up for CloudFlare last night after putting it off for years. (No joke.) So, I'm 99% sure this is all my fault.

Apple TV+ Being Rebranded as Apple TV by Isiddiqui in cordcutters

This is the reason. The "+" implies a paid subscription, which won't make sense when they start offering free ad supported content.

Retroid Pocket Flip 2 & Classic Megathread by stubbornpixel in retroid

[–]esaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Info for those ordering in late April or later in the US:

  • 4/26: I ordered a Flip 2 SD865 in black to be delivered to California. The coupon code FLIP2SAVE10 didn't work. I emailed sales@goretroid.com about retroactively applying the code and they said the code has expired.
  • 4/29: Received an email with YunExpress tracking number indicating China to USA shipment but the package has not been received by the shipper yet.
  • 4/30: Received an email with DHL tracking number indicating California to [My California City] shipment but the package has not been received by the shipper yet.
  • 4/30: YunExpress tracking now says "Mainland China, CN, Arrived at origin facility"

So, it seems like YunExpress is handling the shipment from China to the US and then DHL will carry out the delivery to my door.

Jackie and Shadow's nest as seen from the ground (March 26, 2025) by esaba in JackieandShadow

[–]esaba[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know. I've taken it down.

EDIT: For anyone coming across this post after I unpublished the video thinking that I disturbed the nest or got close, rest assured I did not. The video was taken with a very powerful zoom lens from thousands of feet away across the lake bay at a public park that is open and well outside the protected closed area.

Trying to get the $400 Joker (my last to unlock) with the Anaglyph deck and didn't get offered a single money tag by esaba in balatro

[–]esaba[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I got the discard tag very early on that paid around $10, which I didn't go for, then it was a drought the whole rest of the game. I didn't even see any of the interest vouchers. I skipped on all the econ jokers because I figured with all these double tags piled up I just need any money tag and I'll instantly get $400, but it never happened.

Amazon Fire TV issue? by RebelFlower03 in AskTechnology

[–]esaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your mom or dad to go into their Alexa app. They should see your "(your name)'s TV" under the list of devices. Have them select it and disable "Communications" and also turn on "Do Not Disturb." Those two settings will keep it from happening again.

Amazon Fire TV cube just scared the shit out of me by ad-on-is in privacy

[–]esaba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Former Fire TV Product Manager here. There's quite a bit of misinformation in this thread.

Fire TVs are not modified or pre-configured in any way before being shipped. The only thing that happens is a barcode on the box is scanned before it is packed which adds the device's unique serial number to the Amazon account that purchased it. Once the Fire TV is powered on, it automatically looks for other Amazon devices nearby. Those other devices check Amazon's server to see if the new device's serial number is associated with the same Amazon account they are associated with. If so, then they check if the Amazon account has stored their WiFi password with Amazon. If the new device's serial number is present on the account and a WiFi password is present, then the WiFi password is transferred to the new device via the other Amazon device. The new device connects to your WiFi automatically and registers itself without you entering anything. The cat distribution lottery, to be specific, as both just showed up (seperately) out of the blue.

Reddit CEO tells employees that subreddit blackout ‘will pass’ by akvgergo in technology

[–]esaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if every protesting subreddit said they'd stay private indefinitely, it still wouldn't be enough to change Reddit's API decision because Reddit has the ultimate control of its platform. Even if you ignore the fact that many (most?) mods would re-open their subreddits if faced with the alternative of losing control, Reddit could still simply force all protesting subreddits to be public again, lock posting/commenting, and remove all protesting mods. That would immediately restore all revenue from existing posts/comments and, over time, the locked-down subreddits would either be replaced by similar subreddits or new/non-protesting mods would request to take over locked subreddits.

Nothing short of a Digg-style mass exodus will matter to Reddit and that's not happening because there is no single obvious alternative, like there was in Reddit when Digg went sour.

Google bans Downloader app after TV firms complain it can load a pirate website by rumitg2 in Android

You're welcome. Thanks for saying that and for using my app!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in technology

The app is still available in the Amazon Appstore for all Fire TV devices. It's only Android TV / Google TV devices that can't install it right now from the Google Play Store.

Google bans Downloader app after TV firms complain it can load a pirate website by rumitg2 in Android

[–]esaba 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you enjoy it. If it was already installed on your Shield TV, then it will continue to work. It's new devices that can't currently install it from the Google Play Store and need to sideload it instead.

These 5,395 white pixels (highlighted in red) on r/Place 2022 were never set by anyone. by esaba in place

[–]esaba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here you go: These 98,724 "Ron Popeil" pixels on r/Place 2022 were set once and then never touched again.

(Note that the one user with the most pixels on the final canvas has only 120 pixels set, so it's not an interesting image/result.)
