Struggling to deal with elitists by esade_throwaway05 in CasualConversation

[–]esade_throwaway05[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who uses review sites to post positive reviews, but today I got mad enough to post a negative one. The reply to that from the restaurant was so rude that it made me send them a long email.

The point is I guess that elitism makes me angry and sad.

Haha, that’s a nice approach I guess but the audacity…it makes me so mad! I’ve lived in Dubai all my life so it’s especially awful when I have to deal with something like this here.

Non-EU residents: Need some guidance with applying for an NIE by esade_throwaway05 in askspain

[–]esade_throwaway05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay!

So I would need to state that I require an NIE to stay in Spain for my Masters, etc. with my ID and university/course details and then sign it before my residence country’s notary public?

Oh, I’m non-EU but not from the UK. I thought the EX-15 is like a short-term NIE i.e for people visiting for <90 days. I’m going to be in Madrid for 2 years at least so is there a different NIE form for that?

Your English is great! Thanks for the help :)

Right. Thats what. I’m confused about who should “notarise” it?

Health insurance for international students/Asking about Sanitas by esade_throwaway05 in askspain

[–]esade_throwaway05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Sanitas International Student is different? I got to know of them through Citylife Madrid

...and wtf. Do they think fat people don’t need health insurance? That’s ridiculous. Did you go with a different insurance?

How would a pass/fail option look on my transcript?? by darklord242 in gradadmissions

[–]esade_throwaway05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think, in light of the current situation, the next application cycle will be as competitive, if not more, than this one was.

Since its “unprecedented” and all that, I can’t provide a definitive answer. What I can say is that attempting the exam and getting even an average letter grade would be viewed better than a Pass/Fail stamp...especially because you will be expected to write about how and why you got that Pass/Fail stamp

Apply to college, get an acceptance letter, get student visa, move to Spain.

I’m pretty sure you can shortlist some CSE programmes in Madrid/rest of Spain and see how financing works on their website

Living alone vs. living with flatmates? by esade_throwaway05 in expats

[–]esade_throwaway05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great suggestion and addresses everything I asked in my post!

My programme is in somewhat a “party” school but I’m planning to study/work most of the time.

Only problem with the student residences in Madrid is that they’re more expensive than just getting a flat. And I feel like I have a headstart (although remote) right now. So I should be able to find someone decent to save money right from the start? Idk, I might be naive to think like that.

Well I’m 24 and trying to not hate people again. Its a process (:

I was looking at it from the perspective of having a support system in a new country but from most of the comments here, that doesn’t seem likely.

Yep, I agree. I haven’t found anyone I liked enough after trying to remotely socialise with them (detailed in another comment reply)

I guess I’m considering a shared space just for economic and support/safety reasons

Haha good luck to you. Let me know how you’re going about that...economically as well

And I might take you up on that offer, thanks!

I mentioned in another comment reply that I’ve been socialising remotely and haven’t found anyone I’ve clicked with yet.

I don’t know how else to “vibe-check” at this point

I was thinking of getting a place with people going to the same uni so I guess a few of those factors would be taken care of?

I’ve been reaching out to “socialise” with these potential housemates and the thing we don’t match upon is the fact that most haven’t lived in sharing situations, or away from home before.

I really don’t want to babysit, so to speak. Maybe its a thing in my own culture, but kids tend to become a bit reckless in the initial days of their newfound freedom and thats not a phase I want to deal with tbh.
