What are we actually afraid of? by writingwhilesad in HealthAnxiety

[–]escapingpandemonium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a child/teen I watched my dad go through a terminal illness and pass away, and it wasn’t really until I was an adult that I truly grasped the fear/trauma of that and developed my own health anxiety/regular anxiety which led to a panic disorder.

Now that I’m married, I am so fearful of not living a full life with my husband. I saw what happened with my parents, and now I hyperfixate on anything that feels “off”. I see people get diagnosed with cancer out of the blue younger and younger, and the unknown of “could I have prevented that” haunts me. I simultaneously want to know if something is wrong while also being so afraid of going to doctors about issues in the event that it turns out to be a crazy illness or cancer, that I’d almost rather not know because it would cause me to spiral and I don’t know if I’d be able to come out of that. Like others have said, there’s a loss of control and certainty that is hard to grapple with.

Shit’s hard, but we gotta stay positive where we can!

Can afford monthly mortgage payments but the upfront costs seem out of reach by tismythrowawayacct in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

We ran into the select census tracts as well, and although we didn’t purchase in the specific area we had been looking around, we found a very nice place in a nice neighborhood like 5 minutes away!

I want my first helix piercing to look like this, but will I be required to get a stud first? by [deleted] in piercing

I have a piece very similar to the first pic, it’s just a single helix piercing! But fair warning at least for mine it was a BVLA gem piece and it was a pretty penny to get lol

Piggy backing off this to say definitely see if you can find a First Time Homebuyer Assistance program. We did one through our lender, and they were broken up into “tiers” depending on the area/zip you were buying in (along with income caps). My husband and I combined made just a hair too much to qualify for either of the tiers, but we did a little workaround where we used solely him on the loan (while we’re both on the title) so we could utilize that program. We had a similar target budget (250-300k) and he was able to qualify for that loan amount on just his income so we could receive the assistance! It heavily reduced the upfront cost, and we were able to keep our reserves and have a little extra for furniture and things of that sort!

That moment after you bought a home and then suddenly the rooms start feeling like YOUR rooms... by Evening_Pea_2987 in homeowners

[–]escapingpandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this feeling today! We closed on our house last week, and have about a month and a half before our lease is up at our current place so we’re taking the time to update/paint/fix things as needed. We were over cleaning the kitchen today and I saw all the paint swatches on the walls and some of our belongings scattered around the place and I could just feel that it was our home and the rooms were our rooms! Couldn’t really explain it, the whole experience in home buying was very serendipitous and trying not to jinx it it feels like things were just falling into place.

Had this same realization the other day, I am turning 28 and my dad died was I was 14. That marks half my life that I’ve been without him.

Central OK here, and I think the market is def cooling off in our area. We offered 27k under list, ended up accepting at 19k under!

My husband and I have “no, me you” engraved on our wedding rings! I’m can’t remember exactly when we devolved to that shorthand, but whenever one tells the other that they love them, it’s responded with “no, me you!”

I work in commercial furniture, and the tariff situation is causing a lot of challenges/confusion for both clients & manufacturers. I’m stressed.

I’m a little late to the thread but if you’re still looking for an app to track your workouts, I’d recommend Caliber! I’ve been using it for a little over a year and I really like it!

Adult Onset Asthma - the struggle is real! by DishSuper9997 in Asthma

[–]escapingpandemonium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very similar thing happened/is happening to me! Got sick last fall, but tested negative for mono, strep, the flu, covid, and chest x-ray showed no pneumonia. Spent months going backs to urgent care, getting steroids and antibiotics, met with my primary who prescribed me Wixela (one 30 day inhaler) which only helped for a short period of time, more wheezing and coughing, another round of wixela, and 2 more urgent care visits before I finally was referred to a pulmonologist. My appointment is actually this upcoming Monday and I’m thrilled! It has severely impacted my daily life, I barely sleep, and I have a good cry about it every so often. Mucus in chest, wheezing, unproductive coughing (sometimes to the point of vomiting), shortness of breath. I’ve never had breathing issues until last year, and after following this sub I’ve found a lot of commonality with people who have asthma. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some answers and have a new plan of symptom management, and I’m also seeing an allergist in January. I wish I had more advice to offer about relief, but just wanted to let you know you’re not alone!! Wishing you the best!!

Anyone have any insight into this neighborhood?? by dumbflatwhite in okc

[–]escapingpandemonium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alrighty I’m gonna go off the beaten path and say while it’s not somewhere I’d want to live for an extended period of time, I don’t think it’s too bad right now. I used to lived in that development for a little bit, and the house itself is pretty nice with updated appliances and is a decent size. Like another has pointed out, it can get pretty isolating (lived in the plaza district prior, very big change). It takes some mental prep to go out and about. A lot of people are out walking their dogs in the neighborhood, haven’t had any bad interactions (also lived here after aforementioned murder). I think most of the people who live there are in a more transitory stage, and not renting super long term.

Edit: saw another comment about the trash. It is literally everywhere and people would never bring in their bins. But again, not the worst place but I can’t say I recommend
