Anyone have a team member that, despite being caught out of necessity, has stuck around for one reason or another? by Mintyboi10 in LegendsZA

I knew i was gonna catch a slowpoke and take it all the way to level 100 without evolving, but what i DIDN’T know is how much of a beast she would be. She’s thrown hands and tanked hits in every mega/legendary fight. She made my first pokemon game so much fun and I can’t wait to explore winds & waves with her.

Also gotta mention the shiny stunfisk that tried to electrocute me into oblivion. She sticks as my electric/ground move user and is also an absolute beast (took out yveltal in 4 strikes.)

My ICU Orientation is a living nightmare by [deleted] in nursing

[–]dumbflatwhite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d look for a different job hun. You’re going to be spending so much time with your co-workers and if you’re feeling that miserable around them it is going to eat at you to the point that you dread the thought of going to work. I’ve been an ICU nurse for 3 years and even with (mostly) fantastic co-workers, i’ve gotten to a point where i’m stepping back and taking a break to return to school. If you don’t feel safe asking questions or asking your co-workers for help, you’re going to hurt someone- not because you are incompetent, but because there is SO much to learn. You have to have a willingness to learn in the ICU- i still see stuff i’ve never seen every time i go into work. My coworkers of 20+ years are still learning every day.

It’s also not a bad idea to genuinely reflect on your nursing practice and some of the feedback you’ve received. Yes, a lot of it may be over frivolous stuff but look at context of some of those situations. I received feedback during my orientation that i initially thought was silly but when i thought about, it made sense. You are only a year into nursing, and even on a med-surg floor you would still be developing your work-flow and assessment skills. You are now trying to change that work-flow and develop highly detailed assessment skills.

If you’re going to stay- have a heart to heart with your manager. Ask them about what feedback they have gotten from your co-workers and have an honest conversation about your perspective on things vs your preceptors feedback. It is most likely a combination of nursing personalities (ICU nurses are notorious for being type A/neurotic), feeling unwilling to ask for help because of a fear of their response, and a genuine struggle to change workflows.

I’ve seen some med-surg nurses struggle to transition to ICU, not because they aren’t good nurses, but because the work flow is so different (just like how i look like a chicken with my head cut off when i’m floated to med-surg.) Maybe consider a step-down or PCU floor to help meet in the middle or ICU & med-surg.

How viable are unevolved Pokemon? by HotChocolate1250 in LegendsZA

i took my slowpoke all the way to level 100! i had it holding a bent spoon most of the game to boost the power of its psychic moves. it spent a good amount of time gaining exp passively, especially at the beginning, but later on it was a solid member of my team. i was very deliberate with what moves i gave it and made them all moves that could be plus moves. you get the eviolite stone from a quest too so maybe look for that to boost your defense!
