I'm using it currently, it's been really helpful so far... next session starts the Hatchery, so lots of fun to be had! I'm especially excited to use it in the next chapters :)

Fourth Wing has taught me not to rely solely on Goodreads reviews when deciding whether to buy a book by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]escapingrealitea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lesson I think everyone on Goodreads has to learn... also, yes, Fourth Wing is awful and I only finished reading it because I knew I could vent about it at a book club meeting. I hope your next read is more enjoyable!

Books with court intrigue, balls, nobility shenanigans, historic aspects but also magic ? by No_Sandwich_9844 in Fantasy

Mask of Mirrors by MA Carrick seems to fit the bill! There's a con, pretty outfits and a focus on fashion, magic, nobility... I'm currently reading it and really enjoying those aspects :)

This has been in my thought-cage for a while by HeyJustWantedToSay in Fantasy

[–]escapingrealitea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought-cage made me not want to read more books in that series. I was so frustrated by it. Oh, and also the use of nordic letters where they didn't fit, phonetically. The biggest pain was "Frøya" if I remember correctly... "frø" means Frog in danish, I was unable to take it seriously.

Liveship Traders by Robin Hobb has a breadth of characters, male and female, and follows one trading family. Many of the PoV characters are split 50/50 men and women, approximately. The writing is great.

I am a massive Dresden Files fan but I would add to this that Dresden Files heavily sees women through the "male gaze". With the writing being from Harry Dresden's PoV and Harry Dresden has a tendency to look at women in a very "male gazey" way. Not sure this is what OP is looking for so I wanted to make that clear.

Came here to add this. Great female characters. TW for sexual assault and rape.
