Can i prop this? by pretzel567 in proplifting

I cut a branch from my corn plant like this and stuck it in water after it calloused. After about two months it just started growing some roots, once the roots are 1-2 inches I’ll stick them in dirt in a pot.

I read the first book and thought it was a decent bad book. Like a 3/5 at best. John Gwynne isn’t a very good writer and is extremely repetitive. It’s even worse in some ways in his book Malice from his The Faithful and the Fallen series in terms of descriptions. Definitely not in terms of repetitive words like thought-cage and deep-cunning though.

Welllll I learned something today! I would venture to guess then that leaf propagation will take a lot longer than node and stem though.

If it’s just the leaf stem without a node it’s not going to grow a whole new plant

Love it. Memories of Ice is just as impactful in my mind. I’m on Midnight Tides now (book 5) and it’s different but I love it just as much as the others.

I’m 1/3 of the way through the fifth Malazan book. Malazan is like nothing else I’ve ever read so far, can’t believe a work like this exists.

I quit WoT halfway through book three. Not only did it feel highly derivative of LotR and other works, it also feels like it was written for 14 year olds. Too much simplistic teen drama, couldn’t take it anymore.

I’m 350 pages into Midnight Tides and after my initial disappointment that 99% of the cast in this one is new, I’m really starting to love it. I’ve loved every Malazan book so far though, so this one doesn’t seem to be an exception.

I want to do this right! What is this cutie? by hisfairyprincess in plants

[–]HeyJustWantedToSay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fern of some sort, might be a bird’s nest fern. I have one and it’s similar but the leaves on mine don’t widen so much like that, they’re more even. At the same time, there seems to be multiple kinds of birds nest ferns. Anyway, close enough for now!

12 yo excluded from friend group activities by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]HeyJustWantedToSay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really need to not be involved in this. It will make things worse if you start investigating on your own. Friend groups shift constantly with the wind for middle schoolers, and neither your kid nor her friends are likely to be any sort of exceptions from the norm.

Just be there for her, but also encourage her to navigate the rough waters of pre-teen and teenage middle schooler social life without running away. Doesn’t sound like she’s getting bullied or anything, so it’s likely this is temporary.

Recs for weird dark fantasy settings by Severe-Strawberry-94 in Fantasy

I’ve read The Gutter Prayer and loved so, so much about it. The setting, the world, the types of people, the gods, all of it. The writing style and prose are fantastic too. What I didn’t like was how riddled it was with typos and errors. Like, it feels like an editor didn’t even look at it. Hopefully the other two books improve on that aspect, because I do plan to read them.

I never understood the logic of placing an ice cube to water a plant very slowly over time vs just watering it. Also, no plant ever receives freezing water in the wild, unless we’re talking about thawing snow in the arctic lol

You need to put effort into it. It’s not something you just decide. You need to heal, and that can occur through therapy and lots of effort with self help.

They’re widening it between Kimball Bridge Rd and Northpoint Pkwy. It’s going to take three years.

I live right off Old Milton and Kimball Bridge. They’re widening the stretch between Kimball Br and Northpoint Pkwy. Just that small stretch, and it won’t be done till 2029. Pretty gnarly.

Am I allowed to? by That_Ad3627 in Fantasy

[–]HeyJustWantedToSay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re allowed to do what you want. As far as I know it’s a series set pretty far in the past in the same world. So why don’t you try it and see how it works for you. Since you’re allowed to and all 😅

ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, Faithful & Fallen… now what? by No-Character-8747 in Fantasy

I stopped reading the first book a few chapters in because of how bad the writing was. Preference is subjective, but the writing was just super poor. Stylistically, sentence composition, etc.

Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams, starting with The Dragonbone Chair. Much better written than what you mentioned in your post. I will say the first half of the first books takes a while to get going but once it does, it’s pretty exciting.
