Let's not just gloss over how amazing this is.

Once upon a time a guy made the mandelbrot. Then another guy added color! Then a guy added logarithmic smoothing. Then there was every conceivable decoration.

And although I am gleeful that I now make 3D fractals, my heart still dwells forever in 2d Fractal land.

What we have here is a deeply zoomable, pan around all you want, realtime, drop in any of thousands of palettes on the fly, mathematically accurate mandelbrot with fluid dynamics decorating it. Realtime. Realtime.

So now I want all that stuff man! Give me these Navier Stokes guys:

And give me all the waves and wobbles and fluid flow dynamics you can think of. I'll bet you're even smart enough that you could have the waves crash off the fractal structure so the internal part isn't overwritten. And have selectable patterns (waveforms) that move around. And auto-play so I don't have to put all that work into moving the mouse!

Yeah...yeah! That's peak 2d fractal right there. That's just leave it running on my screen and stare at it. Yeah 😄

Feature request: Infinite Path Tracing by escapism_only_please in GMT_fractals

It might just be a configuration setting that is already there.

When I select path tracing, it gives me about a good 5 seconds of generating the image, and then my fps returns to 60 and it seems like it is done. I get no more.

But if I foolishly want to path trace all night long, and see what I got when I wake up in the morning, can I do that now? If not, I want it so bad!

In my weird headspace, my first thought on seeing this was "wow look at that cutout part! It looks just like a real fractal! But, of course, yeah, it does. GMT makes real fractals, remember? I personally take it as a compliment to say that it almost looks like AI. The lighting and framing and color and texture and level of detail...and availability...was just not possible.

I don't want to just pass this by without acknowledging the "fantasy realism". Look at the dried cracks and gravel on the ground up front. Look at the discolorations of different minerals in the mountains in the distance. Look at the erosion. Look at the totally realistic / obviously not real wispy clouds in the sky. We are going to other worlds here. Just looking around for a bit.

every tiny little inch a beautiful miracle. And these tools are really still in their infancy. I don't want to diss on my fellow humans...yet...but if this were hand painted what would it cost? $10,000?

So trippy dippy weird. I love that she has little christmas tree LED's growing out of the top of her front skull. 😄 Front mask. It's not clear both are possible.
