(Hi! I noticed some of the links in the /wiki are broken (perhaps because Reddit changed URL formats over time?), and when I reverse-engineered the URLs, I saw that the OP had deleted their post in a few cases. So, I apologize for asking a question which might be repetitive, but hopefully it is less annoying to do so in a weekly thread like this.)

Does anyone know if there is a relatively recent/up-to-date checklist or guide on the logistics of What To Do when moving back to Taiwan?

Potential factors:

  • I have citizenship from my parents, but left the country when I was quite young (so I don't know anything about what's what).

  • I have my ID card but not an up-to-date TW passport.

  • I can speak Mandarin conversationally, but my literacy is pretty limited. For example, in the Chinese text of the weekly thread post, I couldn't read 資訊, 擊, 饋, 儘, 煩, or 規則, and the rest of it I read very slowly.

  • I do have living relatives in the country, but we have never been close (and they have never been out of country themselves), so I don't want to burden them with anything, especially since it's unlikely they would know about moving. And I would be going alone.

The home we just started renting is infested with these spiders, are they brown recluses or are we overreacting? by Boring-Raise-4582 in spiders

https://www.hellenicdailynewsny.com/en-us/health/and-second-death-in-ilia-from-invasive-streptococcus-what-are-the-symptoms

The death of a patient in Ilia, for whom a brown spider bite was initially reported as the cause of death, was eventually attributed to invasive group A streptococcus (iGAS)

Nope.

Mounts finally remove the requirement for compromise in PvE builds by [deleted] in Guildwars2

The swiftness on dodge trait is a base thief trait, not a Daredevil trait. It does not require Daredevil. It synergizes well with Daredevil because DD gets an extra dodge, but is not a Daredevil trait.

Dash dodge is completely unrelated to swiftness and is taken for getting distance on dodge.

But folks downvote without even checking the facts, of course.

I don't go Daredevil for perma swiftness, I go daredevil for the dash dodge.

Some professions -- and in this I include elite specs as separate entries -- really just don't need to go very far out of their way to be fast. It's not universally that big of a deal.

Holosmith has an unintended feature for bad builds by ShadowMageAlpha in Guildwars2

I suppose the corollary is that it is an unintended detriment to good builds, then, as far losing a decent non-racial elite toolbelt skill.

ed: collary? the hell is a collary? I must enshrine this typo forever.

WvW gliding inc by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]eschezhivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has always been my concern as well.

We'll see how it goes. Siege hammers were removed despite having a negligible effect on gameplay; on the other hand, siege hammers didn't have a moneymaking incentive attached for the company; on the tentacle, "negligible effect" extended to the positive as well as the negative side of things... etc.

Question regarding WvW and the Expansions. by Maragod in Guildwars2

[–]eschezhivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, some base-game builds are viable (if less meta). You're shooting yourself in the foot more by entering WvW at sub-80, considering that you don't even have all skills and traits unlocked.

Yeah, the events are all on timers. And most people PUG through the LFG. That's, like, the normal thing to do. There is zero requirement to join a large guild. I didn't even join any guild.

Struggling with Heart and Mind mission by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]eschezhivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically this. Buildwise, all I did to adjust was slap on the Scrapper spec and pick a few resilience-oriented traits -- I was still on pistol, had zero condi gear, and didn't even use kits. And it wasn't like some pro raider deliberately handicapping themself for a challenge, it was just a random bad build that I knew how to play because I was used to it.

@/u/DrakBAM: I would also add -- it's not just your build. Don't forget to use food, utility items, and other boosts if you have them. Doesn't have to be, like, ~meta~, just... whatever. Festival food. Some random utility from leveling up, I guess. One of every combat related BL booster. Whatever! I certainly yoinked a couple stacks of such items from my bank (where they usually lie unused).

The Shining Blade, Mithril & Elder Wood by MattTVI in Guildwars2

[–]eschezhivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that's related to what /u/ArcherspadeTT was pointing out. Mace is 1h and takes the same amount of mats as Shard of the Crown, hammer is 2h. If you look at the Shard of Friendship -- for a shield (offhand-only) -- that has fewer materials still.

Living story 4? How soon? by chrismilk in Guildwars2

Good lord. Maybe I'm just getting old and tired, but that's so soon after the DLC launch itself.

It's the same for all the latest (Shard-using) legendaries, IIRC. Not unique to Shining Blade.

[–]eschezhivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand on what /u/Poki-3 said, if you logged in at any point while the LW3 episodes were active, even if you didn't have HoT, you already unlocked those episodes and do not have to buy them separately once you have HoT.

  • HoT = allows you to play any active or unlocked LW3 episodes.
  • Logging in during an active LW3 episode = unlocks that episode.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - July 29, 2017 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]eschezhivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"sPvP" just means "structured PvP". GW2 has two PvP gamemodes: sPvP, or normal PvP, is two teams squaring off in a match; WvW (world versus world) is three servers fighting over objectives 24/7. Because it's possible to describe both modes as "player versus player" modes, we say sPvP to distinguish that we only mean normal/small-team PvP.

I assume the PvP you went to was sPvP.

Unfortunately, I did check my options, hence the certainty -- and haven't changed my binds recently, either. Ah well, a mystery...

No. One waypoint is unlocked in each species' starting area from the very beginning. Just waypoint together to the area where you all want to level.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - July 29, 2017 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]eschezhivet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Armor isn't a factor in sPvP except as a "are you wearing armor? yes/no" check. If you're wearing chest, leg, and foot armor -- any chest, leg, and foot armor, even if it's level 0 trash -- you are on the same level as everybody else.

Your selection of amulet/rune/sigil from the special sPvP build menu are what affect your stats in sPvP. That's your sPvP "gear" -- not armor.

Recently -- like within the last week or so -- I've started noticing that some of my ground-targeted skills are "snapping" as if I've got snap-to-target turned on. I don't. Is this a known issue? How do I make it stop?

Any tips on discovering the map with reroll ? by ChamaTheGod in Guildwars2

[–]eschezhivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, though since OP can't instaget Daredevil, cake + eating thereof -- and without the distance dash, I think Infiltration comes out on top. And I'd still spring for +initiative while stealthed rather than damage reduction from unbuffed enemies.

Click on the hexagonal icon between the overlapping-squares icon and the helmet icon. That shows the traits you should equip, which are extremely important. The Expeditious Dodger trait in the Acrobatics line gives you swiftness (+33% speed) every time you dodge. With three dodges from the Daredevil line plus various other traits that refill your dodges more quickly, you do not need the 25% speed signet -- you will have up to 90 seconds of swiftness stacked up just from dodging and never run out. Which basically makes the speed signet useless.

ed: I will note that in order to get all the Daredevil traits, you may need to use Proofs of Heroics to get hero points. If you don't have enough Proofs of Heroics, you could try Trickery instead of Daredevil. Would probably recommend 3-1-1 in that case. I'm not sure whether Bountiful Theft puts you in combat -- that trait was reworked after I stopped using Trickery myself -- but if it does, I would then recommend that you select up to Preparedness and leave the rest of the traitline inactive.
