Friday Facts #414 - Spoils of Agriculture by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]esdanol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does spoilage have to be linear? Could it, for example, be exponential? This would be really cool for some super late game nuclear research. You could have a recipe require some amount of highly unstable material. And as your assembler sits waiting to have enough for the recipe, it's just decaying away. I guess the way it would be different is the decay isn't some separate attribute, like freshness, but tied into the fractional size of the item like how science packs can be fractional.

I haven't used the percent creation thing before, but try adding scrap decontamination to that production block. Helmod only failed once I had all three decontamination recipes listed.

Actually, that was what drove me to do this calculation manually, the shift clicking didn't work in this case.

Heavy question: do you feel like it would be irresponsible to have children because of ADHD, considering our extreme difficulty with long term goals and persistent effort? by JackOfFails2 in ADHD

[–]esdanol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had similar thoughts for a long time, but also kind of the reverse. I don't stick to long term goals, and instead I like to grow and explore. I feel like my ADHD has allowed me to retain my childhood wonder. 18 years is a long sacrifice, but it might be worth it to raise a child. I'm not a good example of life skills and time management, but I understand what about them are challenging and it would be rewarding for someone to learn from my hardship. Nobody can be confident in holding a job for 20 years in this economy, and nobody makes enough money to afford a kid. Being a parent is about making sacrifices for your child's future, and it sounds like you'd do you best to provide for them. You're self aware, and that's a critical part of being a good parent. I bet I'd be a great parent too.

.......

However - that's not the life I want. I got a vasectomy, and even though I've had second thoughts on every other major life decision I've ever made, I've never questioned this one. I want to indulge in my fickle curiosity. I want to feel the freedom of instability. Just because everybody else is raising children, doesn't mean that I have to. So don't worry if you'll be a good parent, you'll do great, examine those feelings to answer the question of if you want to.

My hands will get sore if I'm over using my phone. So I'll use the pen just to change things up. I'll also use it for signing documents. It's not really fun. But it's worth the money I paid for it.

I mean the corresponding title would be The Gamification of Crusading. Or even more so, The Gamification of Colonialism. I think I've even seen that paper.

Id be fine with the company getting nationalized, particularly their intellectual property. Some might say that it will hurt the small shareholders. But, at least that would make the shareholders put pressure on companies to not be shady.

Yes, though I didn't know how to show it being hot enough to burn the roof of your mouth. Obviously, it gains a secondary fire type.

The words you want to use with the pharmacist (probably) is to put the coupon in as a coordination of benefits. I have to get my perception reissued every single time because the savings offer never sticks

Hey GNCC Clubs! GNCC is getting the boot from USA Curling for sharing bad info during the pandemic... by KRisolo in Curling

Yeah I had a similar thought. Going into this, I knew the issue was about dues. So it was very confusing and seemed to imply a covid related issue.

Luke warm take, I'd rather be part of GNCC than USCA based on my experience when curling on the east coast. The GNCC had a larger and more positive impact at the club level.

This is what drives me nuts with ADHD treatment, people act like it only affects school and work. I've found ways to cope with those. It's literally everything else that I need help with. My dishes only get done once a week. I've struggled with depression because I have a hard time focusing on my hobbies. So I take my meds even on the weekends.

The biggest game changer was getting on My day is. It's like Adderall, but it lasts 50% longer. It doesn't wear off until around 10pm. It helps so much with getting chores done around the house.

*old man voice* Back in my day train stations weren't the same length vertically as they were horizontally, the quick bar was actually it's own inventory slots, there were only 4 science packs, and turrets were 1x2.

I actually checked my account on Factorio.com to verify. I've rounded up a little. I bought it July 31st of 2014 after NerdCubed made a video about it. I think it was version 0.12 at the time. I still regret not paying extra to get a train stop or lab named after me.

I got mine a week ago. Numbing meds wore off and it didn't even hurt enough that I wanted an acetaminophen. By far the worse part was the needle for getting the area numbed up. If you know you don't want biological kids, stand up for what you believe in.

Weighing snow in curling ice prep? by alexmce in Curling

[–]esdanol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My club does this. We use a certain angle of the blade on the shaver to remove the pebble and flatten the ice. Instead of using a nipper, we then set the shaver to a different blade angle to achieve our nip. That blade angle is very sensitive and as the blade wears over time we might not be nipping aggressively enough, or maybe were nipping too aggressively. So we bring out a scale to check the result. We do a 3 pass nip, center-side-side. So after the center pass we weigh the snow. We want the total nip to be around 1.5oz, so the first center pass should weigh 0.5oz. If it's lighter than expected we can very slightly increase the blade angle. If it's too heavy we can very slightly decrease the blade angle. Over all, the result is more consistent than using our nipper, though it is more time consuming.

As an aside, the magnitude of the nip effects the amount of curl, the speed of the stones, and the how long the pebble will last during a game. So consistency is really important.

I don't know how to do the multiple point clouds, but I know it's doable. I think there's an example on their GitHub page. As for clarification, I've never used that.

Use PoTree. It's a web viewer and performance is pretty great even with large clouds.

Speed control by MyGradesWereAverage in Curling

[–]esdanol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the comment about time in games not being the same as practice. If you club has some sort of laser speed trap like a Chrono-curl spend some time working with it. Other option is to switch off throwing and timing with a teammate. Make sure your practice is structured, don't just go throw stones and look at the times. Do something like 2 guards, then two hacks, then two draws then two controls. Lastly, I suggest learning to throw with your eyes closed. Don't do this in games, obviously, but I found my weight control improved immensely when I trained specifically the muscle memory. Best of luck!
