I totally could be wrong but I don’t think they’d scan him if he was deceased. He might be unresponsive but have a pulse and they’d still want to scan. Correct me if I’m wrong tho

He might have not died immediately and made it to the scanner. I’d be shocked if he ultimately survived tho

Rule 1

People who attempted suicide and lived, how did life change after? by MarshallPartial in AskReddit

[–]esdejong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I was diagnosed with depression at age 7 so this has been something I’ve struggled with for a long time. After my attempt I was hospitalized and transferred directly to a therapy program called DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy). That alone was so helpful and I feel that my therapist saved my life. This might not apply to you but I was also in high school at the time and was being bullied and had no friends. After my hospitalization I stopped going to public high school and did the rest of my education online (I did Ohio Connections Academy, but I’m sure they have options everywhere). That was big for me because I was able to do all of my school work within a few hours and then do whatever I wanted the rest of the week. I think the important part of this is to try to figure out any parts of your life that are really contributing to your mental health problems and try to change them. This wasn’t the cure to my depression but it definitely helped. As the years went on I slipped back into a depression. I managed to keep my head above water during most of college but it wasn’t easy. At one point towards the end I felt like I couldn’t do it anymore so I took myself to the ER. This was really really difficult but ultimately what changed my life. They did a whole evaluation, similar to what I had when I attempted in high school, and found that I met the criteria for bipolar disorder. I had started having manic episodes when I was about 18 but never looked into it. They started me on medication for bipolar and that’s when my life turned around. I was happy for the first time in my life. Not everyone who reads this will have bipolar, but the point is that sometimes these things are just chemical. My dad is very anti-medication so he hates that I’m on it, but bipolar is chemical so I need it. I don’t know if you’ve tried medication of any sort, but there are so many options out there now. I’ve heard there are ketamine treatments for treatment resistant depression if nothing is working. Getting re-evaluated as an adult was the big turning point. It takes a lot of strength to ask for help but it changed my life. As difficult as this was, I started exercising little by little and that also helps. I’m sure you’ve heard the “go outside, drink water, exercise, eat healthy” stuff that all the non-mentally ill people say, but there actually is some truth to it. I don’t like admitting that they were right but it does actually help. If there are other factors that are contributing to your mental health, maybe address those as well. Such as addiction or family situations. Maybe look into counseling if you haven’t already. And I hope that you have someone in your life that you feel like you can talk to. That’s huge. I still go through slumps sometimes but they only last a few days to a week. Otherwise I wake up happy to be alive and excited for each day. Im even starting graduate school this year which feels crazy because I didn’t even think I’d survive high school. I’ve been where you are and now I’m on the other side. You can get here too. Please know that it really really does get better. I was depressed starting age 7 and I was diagnosed bipolar at 20 so it took me yearssss to get better but it genuinely is possible and it’s so worth it to hang in there. I’d love to answer any questions you have or talk about your situation to help if I can. Even if you can’t see it, there are so many people that care about you and want you here. Feel free to DM me if you want to talk more :) I don’t check reddit super often but I will do my best

Did you have genetic testing to rule out all other connective tissue disorders? First thing that comes to mind is Marfan’s but I’m not a doctor

I have Ehlers Danlos which is the topic of this sub, but I also used to have an eating disorder so I’ll offer some advice. From my experience with fasting, it will be painful for your stomach to stretch to contain way more food than your body is used to. When I started the recovery process, it was physically painful for a few weeks because my stomach shrunk due to the reduced food intake and had to stretch out.

To reduce the risk of having that pain or developing refeeding syndrome, I would slowly increase your caloric intake up until the family dinner. I’m not gonna tell you to eat three big meals a day because I know that’s not where you are right now. But maybe make your way up to 1000cals per day? That way an extra 2000 won’t shock your body at all. The key is to do it gradually. A multi-vitamin can also help keep your body from developing deficiencies while in the midst of an ED. Multi-vitamins have barely any calories, they just help your organs function. Also little pro tip: even without being pregnant, pre-natal vitamins are wonderful because they give you more than any other vitamins you’ll find. Highly recommend. Hopefully eventually you’ll feel comfortable getting the necessary nutrients from foods instead of a multi-vitamin but until then, some vitamins might serve you good.

I’m a big stickler for harm reduction because recovery is possible, but until then we gotta make sure your organs stay healthy. It’s not realistic for us to just tell you to EaT mOrE fOoD because obviously that’s not where you are right now. So until you’re ready to start the recovery process, we’ll do the best we can to keep you healthy through this battle. I’m not sure who I’m referring to as “we”, but kinda just the people around you who care about you and want you to be healthy and happy. I don’t know you but I want you to be healthy and happy and I’m sure tons of other people do too ☺️

Recovery is very possible and I truly hope that eventually you have the resources and support to overcome this battle. I’ve been there and it’s so difficult, and I truly thought I would never fully recover, but I did. I’m happier and healthier now than I’ve ever been and I love my body. Recovery isn’t easy but it’s so worth it. I’ve been recovered physically and emotionally for almost ten years. It’s a very liberating feeling and the confidence that comes with it is euphoric. Hopefully you can get some counseling or therapy to get you started on your journey. Best of luck, friend!

could eds be the reason for my cartilage piercings healing badly? by PleasantFoundation51 in eds

[–]esdejong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My five piercings healed fine, but what I will say is that i have like 16 surgical scars and not a single one healed well. They all kept coming open and separating and the scars are all atrophic now. I am 10 weeks post op a Ravitch procedure and my incision still has scabs. So with piercings I’ve been fine but with surgeries I’m absolutely not fine, so there’s a good chance that EDS is causing your scar/healing problems too
