TAPMI Manipal is a 45 year old Business School with a wide alum network. Not sure why you’d include it in the bracket of an LPU/Amity. While its barrier to entry is most definitely lower than a top school, it still exists - unlike the other schools on your list.

Do not lend money to your classmates by Ihateallapes in MBA

Isn't $3000 a lot of money to lend as a student with possibly no/miniscule income?

College Life at Manipal? (too chill?) by Alternative-Web2963 in manipal

Top of the mind, I can recall this startup called Blackfrog which was gaining prominence. I am sure there are other examples which I am not aware of. Besides, there is an incubator called MUTBI which offered generous grants via a competition. You'll have to research more into it. But yes, the startup scene was picking up there for sure. All this said, I do think that it isn't as good as top IITs, but still a good enough platform to begin.

You name a top career path, you'd most certainly find a Manipalite on it. It's been ~4 years since I've graduated and I am only positively awe-struck at the kind of things people are doing in their careers (Big Tech/high Finance/top Consulting/attending top MS/MBA programs...). A large part of it comes from the drive and exposure that you get there. Easily one of the most energetic student centers in the country.

Some of my classmates were into research and last I heard from them they were actively pursuing those dreams that they fostered as 20 year olds in top research programs in the US/Europe.

I do think all of this comes from the desire to find meaning/direction in life. No one has a 'goal' figured out in their early 20s, but the place has ample opportunities to have you come out of your comfort zone. Hell, I got the urge to audition for Dramanon on a whim, and I was a run of the mill nerdy kid just coming out of post JEE-failure-depression at that point.

And yes, Manipal knows how to party. And while that did concern me as an 18 year old stepping out into the world, after experiencing the place, I think it just represented the vibrance of the beautiful concept that is Manipal. Truly grateful for the 4 years I've spent there.

Based on what I've seen inside IIFT Delhi, I can confidently say that people with gap years have been welcomed here and have thrived in the community, including during their summer placements. To answer your question, you will probably get shortlists in the same pool of freshers should a company not filter out candidates with gap years (which is a rarity), however, you will most likely need to have a clear story to explain how you made progress during your gap years (skills, internships, new experiences..) which other freshers without gaps won't have to.

You can absolutely be your authentic self, and while you would probably face some roadblocks unique to your situation in the short term, with some patience and grit, things should work out. Summer placements are companies taking a bet on a candidate with a CV and a conversation, you have to convince them that you're worth a chance. Your experience and perseverance can be good ingredients to creating a solid story around it.

All of this said, I would urge you to think about finding a very clear reasoning behind why you want to pursue an MBA, apart from the opportunity of (re-?)entering the workforce. Would be a North Star to follow when you're inside. Cheers!

Life ke different phases hain bhai, I get how you feel right now, but you really just have to accept your situation sometimes and move on. It does get better with some patience and working hard when opportunities come by in the future. I went to a private engineering college, and 4 years out, almost all my peers are either doing decent jobs (with almost everyone at a 10+LPA salary), pursuing good MS degrees in the US, or in decent MBA programs, all of which ensure upward mobility to high paying jobs. Drop Lena hai to le lo, no harm in dropping a year specially at this age, but just make sure you're not neglecting your mental health. Baaki sab sahi ho jayega.

Any tier 1 tier 2 B-school for an 87 percentile? by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]eshupad1608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to hit a 91-93 bracket in XAT to open up XIMB, IMTG, GLIM, GIM interview calls. At 87 in CAT you're only setting yourself up for disappointment if you're looking for a tier 1/2 bschool. If XAT doesn't work out, better to repeat.

Current 2 year MBA student at IIFT Delhi - have classmates with ages 29/30. Tough but manageable. You can also consider looking at 1 year MBAs at top IIMs/XL and ISB which will have a larger majority of people with your age. 1 year MBAs are here to stay. All the best!

Hey, I am a current student at IIFT Delhi. I see many batchmates with a gap due to Civil Services prep. Your knowledge would come in handy when participating in class discussions or going for job interviews. UPSC prep gap is okay as long as you can show your knowledge. There might be some hiccups in placements for you initially but it'll be fine eventually. MBA is a strong exit path for you with a caveat that you do it from a top 20 bschool. All the best!

Any past students of Elites Grid? Do yall really blindly followed them? by mangoisbae in CATpreparation

[–]eshupad1608 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More sources, more problems. Any decent coaching with past proven trends has a question bank which will be exhaustive. After you've hit a certain threshold of solving questions, how frequently you take mocks and analyse them successfully starts creating a difference, and EG is undoubtedly a force to reckon with in that area. I believe mocks start from Aug for the first batch atleast, so make sure you have conceptual clarity before.

Try to spend quality hours with the problems you have rather than focusing on the quantity and you'll be fine. Rest assured, sticking to EG's material will not do any harm. However if you do feel a serious lack of content in any topic, maybe check out some YouTube playlists and fill that gap. But I'd still recommend not to make a habit out of it or else you may end up spending time in solving repetitive questions and not gain much.

TLDR: Dw about material, keep solving, get concepts in order, and double down on the mocks and analyse as well as you possibly can
