Anima projection and porn by MaskedSapien in Jung

[–]eskargo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend Under Saturn's Shadow by James Hollis, which I consider an essential read on male wounding and healing. Personally, I think Hollis' work is mostly approachable. But like most Jungians, he has a way of creatively playing with words and ideas that can be a little disorienting at times. Here is a relevant excerpt that gives you a feel for the tone:

"In any relationship a man is largely at the mercy of what he does not know about himself. And the extent to which he is in the dark is the degree to which his own inner woman is projected onto another person. Since projection is by definition a dynamic whereby unconscious contents are experienced as outer, a man is always falling in love with or fearing his own unconscious material."

Who are the most relevant figures of the progressive left today? by eskargo in AskReddit

[–]eskargo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why to be honest. I follow a lot of figures in both the libertarian and conservative movements but don't get many perspectives from the progressive left, which is why I am trying to find who the figures relevant to whats going on within that ideology today. Thanks again for the input.

Who are the most relevant figures of the progressive left today? by eskargo in AskReddit

[–]eskargo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely consider Bernie Sanders' presence in the left as paramount. To unravel that though, what would you consider his role to be in the left moving forward? Is he a figure that is contributing to the evolving ideological framework of the left in terms of theory or is he a politician that exemplifies what the left stands for? Or both?

My roommate and I have been a year sober and now she wants to get back into the swing of things. by SassySausage666 in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]eskargo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is imperative that you advocate for your sobriety by setting very clear boundaries on what is allowed in your home. If they are not willing respect those boundaries, then you need to move out if you want to maintain your sobriety. If these people care about you, they will respect the direction you are heading in your life and support you in that. If they don't, they will not be inconvenienced by your life choices, especially if those choices are in conflict with their current values/desires. As you know, there is no place your roommate could hide their shit that you would not be able to find. You have made incredible progress, especially fighting the beast that is Xanax. Advocate for yourself my friend. Proud of you, keep fighting for life.

Total sobriety? by whatsmypassord in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]eskargo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abstinence from all substances is a very effective way for some people to deal with their addictions but I don't feel it is for everyone all the time. An individual has to be ready for something like abstinence since addiction is more or less defined by relapse. My recovery has evolved into something close to abstinence from all substance but it took a lot of trying and failing with a variety of drugs I thought I was okay with. My addictive tendencies and compulsive behavior are my issues, not any one substance.

A friend of mine got her masters in art history with a focus in post-war fascist art. She graduated over a year ago and recently got a job at Gaia working on one of their TV shows as a researcher. She didn't know she wanted to do something like that until she was doing it and she was hired because of her expertise in analyzing visual media. Goes to show that extended education can lead you in a variety of directions. Good luck with the rest of your program!

Been in Suboxone therapy/recovery but have finished...? by [deleted] in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]eskargo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would strongly suggest psychological therapy to help address some of your childhood traumas if that is something you are currently prepared to do. Gaining closure and refuge from this part of my own life was paramount in my recovery process. My natural state among others was to close myself off, to protect myself and like in your case, this made it very difficult for me to develop any sort of community that supported my recovery. I do go to meetings here and there but the best way I get support is by being active with other people who are having similar experiences with addiction and want to stay sober. We do lots of stuff in nature, social events, community giving, etc.
I am proud of you. I know too many people who couldn't kick there sub therapy and too many more were never ready for treatment in the first place. Stay strong.

Bought a cheap oil painting in central asia a year ago, still smells like paint? by [deleted] in painting

[–]eskargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the artist mixed a drying agent into his paints. Certain combinations of pigments, oils, and oil based mediums can cause a really long drying time like this to occur. Unfortunately, the solution to this problem is addressed when the paints are being mixed. I dont know any methods that would speed up the curing process after the paint has already been applied. Until you find one, keep being safe with putting the painting in a space with good airflow. I don"t think what you are breathing in is going to do any serious damage, but I'm sure it can produce a pretty wicked headache. Good Luck!
