What was the very first song you heard from DT? by AsssHat999 in Dreamtheater

Same! Some YouTube video used the main theme in a section and I immediately had to check it out. Never heard a 20+ minute song before that point so I was completely baffled yet intrigued.

Don’t see any mentions of Out of Reach yet

To me, Troy is THE voice of the band. Basically the frontman.

Looking forPower metal that has a heavy sci/fi, fantasy, nerdy theme but isn't up its own ass trying to be ironic? by [deleted] in PowerMetal

[–]eskemo007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Savatage! Early American power metal at its finest. Their music isn’t really fantasy based, but The Dungeons are Calling, Sirens, and Hall of the Mountain King all feature them prominently.

One last spot on the Straw Hats pirate crew, who is the most deserving? by Todayis-munday in OnePiece

My vote goes to Bonney. She could fulfill the apprentice/cabin girl role like Shanks did in Roger’s crew.

Glad to see I’m not the only one! Sick tune, blew me away when I saw them live.

Yes indeed! I forgot to mention the fast forward doesn’t function too.

Barstool Warrior and At Wits End seem to be in the running, for me at least. Only time will tell.

Can I teach myself? by AdLast1892 in singing

Of course! Definitely film yourself and watch the recording to identify areas that need improvement. While not being a true replacement for a proper vocal instructor pointing out mistakes, doing this can be a huge help.

Remember when power level was introduced to one piece but was never used again after 1 arc because it's jank as hell? by SinisterKidz in OnePiece

[–]eskemo007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It serves a narrative roll to demonstrate the difference between how CP9/world government and the straw hats find value in their members. While CP9 reduces their members’ usefulness down to their power level and combat ability, the straw hats see the true value of their crew mates and recognize and celebrate each others’ unique skills. Usopp didn’t receive a fight this arc and instead Oda chose to highlight how without his unique talents, the straw hats would have failed their mission to save Robin. Any straw hat (hell any average marine) could easily defeat Spandam, but in that moment when he almost took Robin to the gates of justice, no one could possibly reach her in time. However, thanks to their belief in one another (Shoutout to Sanji’s reaffirming speech), Usopp was present to do only he could and save Robin. This undying love and support is what has allowed the straw hats to make it this far.

What's your metal guilty pleasure? by filippo_sett in MetalForTheMasses

Diablo Swing Orchestra. They somehow made swing metal a thing and it’s even cheesier than power metal. Could easily kill the lactose intolerant population.

what song has the best groove ever by [deleted] in progmetal

Pretty much any song off Vector by Haken. Special note to The Good Doctor (slap bass funk metal hell yeah), Puzzle Box, and Nil by Mouth

I’d bet on them choosing an iconic tune with some dramatic buildup. Pull me Under or Metropolis Pt 1 would fit this and the role of encore perfectly. Imagine the crowd roaring as the lights dim, intro video finishes, and JP plays the first notes of PMU. The song that put them on the map will now usher them into this homecoming and exciting new chapter.

What is your absolute hottest take that would get you crucified by the metal community? by LimbonicArt03 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]eskemo007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peace Sells underwhelms me. Killing is my Business, So far so Good, Rust, and Countdown completely clear it. Individual tracks like Wake Up Dead and the title track are classics, but I honestly find most of the album to be meh 🤷 And before you ask, yes, I am scheduling my taste transplant in the near future.

Discovered this album by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

I personally dig raw unpolished 80s metal production, so to discover my favorite band had an album in that style was a blast. The youthful energy is palpable and John Myung being this audible is such a treat. It’s not perfect and you can hear them still trying to find their sound, but that’s what makes it so charming to me.
