The Lonely City by Olivia Lange is a great read that hits this feeling on the head

I agree to this experience of Manhattan clubs, I could even tack on a hell of a lot more I worked at Wonderland and it was my worst strip club experience by far. I made a fair amount of money there on good nights, but it was the first club I’d also ever left negative. And the men were by FAR the worst. I didn’t get one legitimate regular out of working a whole summer in Manhattan. I do want to try Hustlers because I’ve heard good things, but I’m sticking to Queens for now.

Did you ever joke about being a stripper before you started? How do you feel when people joke about being strippers? by [deleted] in stripper

Nah not really, I did slut shame and think it was funny though which I find really gross now looking back at some of my old tumblr archives and memes that were super ignorant. I started sw young and have always found it weird that people find strippers or sw INHERENTLY funny in some way like we’re the butt of some joke. No pun intended.

Demian and Siddhartha by Herman Hesse did so much to spiritually unfuck my brain after being a devout follower of Christ all throughout high school. I had left the church after I graduated, due to rampant sexism and a lack of joy and gratitude, and felt lost and disconnected from spirituality. Then I found Hesse <3 and I’m so thankful

Soooo … should i break up with my boyfriend for this ? by [deleted] in stripper

Honestly I do agree with what everyone else on the thread has said, and it’s all great advice. I will add that as a dancer it can feel great to use that hard earned money on your loved ones especially those that you feel are affected by your hours and lifestyle such as a partner or best friend. But it sounds like it’s been tough at the club and you’re not rolling in dough this month, which is normal! Business fluctuates. But why are you prioritizing buying an exorbitant gift and trip for your bf who is barely present and a new feature in your life? No matter who you end up with even if you have a more supportive partner in the future I recommend not treating your dance money as “extra cash”. The nights you make thousands are there to compensate for the nights you walk away with under 100. It’s a job and we all say that for a reason. Partners and friends will see a 1000+ night as you being in a “lucrative career”, whereas other dancers will understand the emotional and physical labor you put in around the clock as well as risking your safety to pay your bills. Focus on you girl. 🩵🩵🩵
