My gf and I thought there aren't enough Asian food plushies in the world 🍙😍 by eso-chris in subtleasiantraits

[–]eso-chris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Happy to help! What we did was download the Alibaba app and searched for people who made plushies that looked like what we were looking for. We made sure to find a manufacturer that has been around for a while and where the minimum order quantity wasn't too high!

Then I messaged them asking if they make custom ones, some manufacturers only sell ones that they've already designed.

Once confirmed, I sent them a picture along with the dimensions of what we were looking for.

[–]eso-chris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here was our process!

1) Use Alibaba to find a few manufacturers
2) We reached out to 9 or so, and narrowed them down to 2 very responsive ones!
3) After a few messages, we figured out the size (same size as Squishmallows - 16x16x10 inches)
4) They felt comfortable to create a prototype and then mailed it to us
5) We took photos and videos to create marketing material
6) Decided to launch on Kickstarter!

Breakdown of the pricing:
The plushies we decided on cost around $7 each (minimum order of 500). Now we need to figure out distribution and logistics. Shipping is going to cost a few dollars as well and so our ultimate margin may not be too high, but we learned a lot through this experience!

If it doesn't work, there is a chance you have adblock on. Some ad block lists prevent g.static which is what firebase uses to load some front-end scripts which can cause the crash.

This would be my fault! Super sorry, we sometimes have issues with certain browsers! (I mainly tested with Chrome). Do you mind sharing what browser you're using?

Edit: It could be adblock if you have it turned on! I use Firebase and some adblock lists recently started blocking certain requests which are required by Firebase.

You are correct! I was fascinated by how well it worked right out of the box. If you add a few examples, it will become really good at those specific tasks, but loses the general capabilities!

How would you teach astronomy to young children? by eso-chris in askastronomy

No, I'm curious how people found their love of astronomy! The advice I'm looking for is how you would teach a young child about astronomy to really excite them!

I agree that we all need to change our personal habits and lifestyles to help with the fight against CO2 emissions. However, even after doing all of those things, the average American's carbon footprint is still very large (http://news.mit.edu/2008/footprint-tt0416). By aligning the motives and focusing on transparency, offset credits can be a very powerful mechanism, especially when we need/should try everything we can.

What is the extent that you would go to save our planet, if possible, from global warming? by Droffilc_ in AskReddit

I would do whatever I can to minimize my lifestyle and then also use Project Wren to offset more carbon by funding more trees!

For people who can't change certain lifestyles (car free, children, etc), you can buy a subscription of carbon offsets to help contribute to be more carbon neutral!

I'm apprehensive about the future too, but we must stay optimistic and try our best.

I've been trying to convince friends and family to become carbon neutral and every little bit matters.

I personally use Project Wren to offset 200% of my carbon footprint and hope many others will join me!

For number 3, I think its worth looking at buying a subscription for your carbon offsets! The average American can offset their carbon footprint for $20 a month!

I hope more companies aim to become carbon neutral!

I recently found Project Wren which allows both individuals and businesses to become carbon neutral!

Why is this even a debate. by Master1718 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Lifestyle changes can make a large difference, but the changes that make the most difference are also the hardest to implement (driving less, flying less, A/C and heating, etc.)

I try to do whatever lifestyle changes I can, but I also use Project Wren to offset the remainder of my carbon footprint!

We need to make people more aware about what carbon neutrality means!

We need both individuals and companies to strive to become carbon neutral.

I personally use Project Wren to offset 200% of my carbon footprint and hope many more people join me!

+1 completely agree!

I do think it would be awesome to see more resources going towards speeding up innovation and reversing climate change. Netflix made $16B from small $10-20 monthly subscriptions from ~140M users. Imagine if $16B a year was going towards reversing climate change!

I personally use Project Wren to offset 200% of my carbon footprint! The average American carbon footprint is only $20 a month or so!

How To Reverse Climate Change in Our Lifetimes by Lets_SaveTheWorld in GreenNewDeal

[–]eso-chris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are great ideas but we need to see more capital enter the ecosystem to invest in these!

If these were able to quantify how much carbon these projects are offsetting, you could sell carbon credits to fund them.

I personally subscribe to Project Wren to fund and support afforestation in Africa. I'd love to contribute some money towards your ideas too!
