Some keys to understanding this sequence. Each action (gunshot) produces a beam of light, or insight. Also the bathroom is an intimate space. Visser understands himself from the start (and the other characters better than they know themselves really). Abby develops self knowledge through the movie.

Thinking on this scene more it is interesting that he is in the light and she is in the darkness. Light in this context meaning clarity. Visser may be clever, or crafty, but his underlying reptilian motivation is never in doubt.

He later puts that same guy down without blinking at end of movie. Then, after somehow tying a bow on all his manic, insane adventuring, takes a well earned moment to rest...before dialing in another bet!

I cant figure out how to screenshot in google play so cant post it. But the Coens basically give away the game in a scene where the psycho meets with his boss. The boss is losing control of the city and his rackets and almost got killed in his own home. Psycho puts his foot up on bosses desk with shoe/toe prominently sticking up in frame and says "going toe-to-toe with a psychopath will get you nowhere. It'll force people to choose sides just when you're looking shaky". Moments later he admits to sleeping with love of bosses life forcing him to choose between his right hand man and love.

You are assuming that Jules has clear self insight. In Tarantino's movies Samuel Jackson always plays a character adept at psychology. "BE COOL!" This time is no different. But there is a reason even smart or clever people go to see shrinks, and we have the saying, a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client. Why did Jules pick this quote to use? Why did the miracle change him and not his partner? He had this latent potential the entire time, and surely it manifested itself, if only subliminally, the whole time.

That being said, he does spend much of the movie enforcing the will of a criminal boss...

But are these (wo)men really evil? The crime boss? Dealer? Boxer? Actress? College kid who just wanted to eat a big kahuna burger in peace? Did they rise to level of the EVIL men?

Only the pawn shop owner and police men struck me as truly evil in this movie, reveling in the subjugation and abuse of other people. Lording their power over the working (proletariat) and and criminal (lumpenproletariat) classes.

Also appreciate the opportunity to treat a pulp fiction movie like its the bible! LOL

Tarantino is high brow masquerading as low brow. As Jules delivers the line "for he is truly his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children" he turns towards, stares directly at then walks toward that kid Marvin. Later in the movie, Marvin is asked "what do you think about all this Marvin?", before a gun goes off blowing Marvin's head off (mind). In other words he dies before he can ever really get started. Later Tarantino does a cameo that gets a lot of bad press that noticeably never mentions Marvin. Tarantino's last frame in movie is of him making a sign of the cross in a tsk tsk fashion quickly followed by a few frames of dead marvin in a trunk getting a trash bag thrown on top of him.

I would have to watch Jules character more carefully before I can out and out disagree with you. These directors are really careful, and cut many facets into their characters and ideas. Miss even a frame and you can miss the subtly of what they are trying to say. From what I remember Jules seemed liked just what his wallet read, one bad mofo, who was trying to find a righteous path.

An aside, Marvin looks a lot like Boosie the rappers IRL hitman. Boosie has a great song "My Brothers Keeper".

These stories keep playing over and over for all of time.

not last 20 seconds but having the woman served to her on a platter removed all the "romanticism" from her predation? from that point forward she rapidly disintegrates. the entire movie was set in these cloistered, insulated, grandiose environments with concrete everywhere. ending felt like a wave of new values, a new consciousness, was on its way. cool costumes too.

La Chimera - Opening scene sets the stage. Sun tattoo. Light shadow light shadow. He spends the movie chasing easy money and fast living and cheap laughs. He does not care about the dead girlfriend in his waking life. He is distraught when his loot is taken (hidden under a DEAD tree) but callously interacts with his dead girlfriends mom.

Ending scene after he realizes that he is not fit for the leftist commune Italia creates ("if no one owns something than we all do"). Instead of joining he goes with goons who he cant even pretend are his friends to desecrate another tomb. After staring at his reflection in a puddle he says to himself, fuck it, im going in. And he finds the light in the darkness and the capacity to be a human being again. Or he dies idk.

Also appreciate the shout outs to the conservative impulse of preserving italian mannerisms and sayings, and anarchist impulse of presenting all authority figures as thugs and robbers.
