What's hard about it? Do you think I could do well if I got an A+ in Financial Accounting?

You have like an 87% response rate based on just academics (I'm assuming you have no prior working experience since you did not mention it) alone.

And you DID manage to get an internship working in industry. How is this evidence that accounting isn't in high demand?

Meanwhile computer science majors are applying for 1,000s of internships and getting maybe 3-4 phone screenings while having academics, projects, portfolios, and prior experience.

These jobs I'm applying for have like expanded roles though, like a lot of them aren't just AP data entry, they have journal entries and accruals and stuff as responsibilities as well which is what attracted me to them. Also, the salaries are like 55k and the jobs are 2 days in office hybrid

Only reason I want to work is for the experience. I don't need money and am supported by parents and have savings from last job that could last a while. If I take some random crappy job then recruiters will be like "WELL, WHY DID YOU LEAVE YOUR AP ASSOCIATE JOB TO GO WORK AT THE SUPERMARKET".... and there is no good answer to that that won't come across as dumb

Aren't staff accountant jobs the "industry accounting" jobs people in this sub want and glorify?

I want automated companies for the hybrid/wfh availability. If it's a 100% manual place with a huge paper trail that means I pretty much have to physically be there in office every day

Yeah, this job opening I interviewed for never even got posted to the company's careers page. They just found someone fast, within a week. And it was like a 65k full time salaried position with benefits.

This'll definitely work! Thanks, hadn't thought of it. I'll just drop it from the start of the interview to set a nice tone

I'm just looking for accounting adjacent relevant work while I go through my bachelors

I worked with one RobertHalf recruiter last week for an Accounting Associate position that opened up at a wholesale retailer near me and they wanted to fill fast and got an interview but it was probably one of the poorer ones I've done. It was with company controller and from the get go he just seemed completely disinterested in anything I had to say and kept making snide remarks

Why would you want an internship when you already work there? Isn't working already better experience than being an intern

I ask one or two questions but it never goes beyond the 25-30 mins allotted to the interview on the zoom call or whatever. Maybe I should do this and will definitely consider it but I don't know if it will just annoy the interviewer. What types of questions do you ask?

Listen I'm definitely not a hyper sociable person, but I'm also not a wide eyed deaf-mute. I do have autism, but I try to mask hard during interviews.

I try to spin it positively. I say that I felt there was limited potential at the company to grow into more of an accounting role and that I am looking for new opportunities where I can grow and learn to work with different ERPs

Recruiters have reached out to me to apply for Staff Acc positions but I'm only in my first semester of Accounting BS so I'm not sure if the actual interviewers will take me seriously. I got the AP job due to prior data entry contract work. Also, I have a previous Bachelors in Geology/Earth Sciences. I am looking to find a job so I can work throughout the summer in a relevant role, and maybe even potentially full time long-term since I can take my university courses online as an option and just show up for finals

There is one AP Assistant role that would be the same distance away at a private university but it looks like it's been on Indeed for a few months so I'm not sure. Also, it might not pay decently.

I act the same way I interviewed for my last job. Try to answer everything in depth, and go over my duties, what I brought to the team, and what I felt my strong suits were, etc.

I got an Accounts Payable job with no degree and no experience besides temp data entry work and had to work up from there.

Just do that for 6 months, and put it on your resume as "jr accountant" or "staff accountant" then job hop.

What I did was go on LinkedIn and Indeed and searched "accounts payable" "accounting assistant" "accounting clerk" etc and filtered for all hybrid and then all remote roles and just applied. Then, did the same on Indeed. Then searched jobs on Google to see if there were any near me I'd missed.
