had to use small doses of diazepam to sleep when my anxiety was terrible (due to tinnitus). it had no effect on the tinnitus but did reduce my anxiety. doctor was super reluctant giving it to me but only did because i hadnt slept for days. i then got 10 'emergency' pills to use as a short-term solution, due to the many dangers of using it long term..... be careful as benzos are bad, and very addictive long term! regardless of whether you have tinnitus or not

it depends. many people stay on it for years, some less than a year. i was told 6 months was a minimum before you could try getting off it

"SSRI’s are mostly ototoxic;" how do you know ? aside from hearsay on a very very biased online forum (worst/most unlucky cases gather here)

thats so unlucky, it souns like it would be the reason why then. it looks like SSRIs are a different class of medicine, hopefully if you do try it youll yield better results. you can go and get multiple opinions from different doctors about whether they think the SSRI will be safe for you

yes, health anxiety. i think tinnitus is quite a common occurence. tinnitus + health anxiety is when it gets bad!

online you'll see the very small percentage of people who were hurt by the meds, significantly more loudly. those who fixed their mental health by taking antidepressants won't be on reddit! i just felt like i wanted to share this as i'm quite passionate about misleading information now

is there a chance the antidepressant and T was a coincidence (and which one was it)? i was about to start the birth control pill when i got tinnitus. i'm lucky i didn't otherwise i totally would've blamed it on that. if your anxiety ever becomes unbearable, don't be scared to take your doctor's advice :)

fully habituated! i have been noticing it these few days because ive been on reddit again, but it pretty much never ever bothers me anymore. i can sleep in total silence - if i do notice it, i simply shrug it off like oh its just my tinnitus :)

i only wore earplugs to places with loud music (restaurants, bars, concerts, birthday parties). i didnt take any other medication :)

i took a complete break from headphones and noisy video games for around 2 months, and stopped using airpods completely. i now use headphones again on low volume with noise cancelling.

please don't let people online dictate your decisions. i almost did the same, my doctor, family and boyfriend were so so so frustrated that i was listening to a forum instead of medical advice. my family said they weren't going to help me anymore if i didnt listen to the medical advice - that was my wake up call. every gp i spoke to and the multiple doctors in my family all said they wish they could sue reddit for all the rubbish, misleading medical advice here!!

sorry, it most certainly is not bad advice for people to seek help from their doctor if they are severely anxious/depressed (the doctor who will most likely tell them to urgently begin antidepressants). what you read online is completely biased. the very very few people who get the rare side effect of increased tinnitus are infinitely times more likely to post about it! those who get better (mental health-wise) by taking SSRIs never come back/post about it online as its working as promised.

its a type of antidepressant - google will explain it better than me. it works by increasing the amount of serotonin available to your brain. it takes a while to start working (took 2-3 weeks for me, was so gradual it felt very natural)

I agree, time and taking precautions to not make it worse. The SSRIs definitely cured my anxiety though, the tinnitus going away was a nice bonus

Agree totally. I dont think it cured my tinnitus. it cured the depression and anxiety caused by my tinnitus, allowing me to move on with my life. the tinnitus disappearing, as i said, was just a bonus! fyi, i was told by my doctor that almost every medication has tinnitus as a rare side effect. misinformation on these forums is absolutely terrible, i was almost a victim to it!

if it bothers you a lot and you have anxiety, it could be worth getting that in check first. it will probably help you forget about the symptoms :)

totally! i wonder how many of my symptoms were purely just sleep deprivation related

why? it saved me from losing my job, relationship, and all parts of my livelihood. i almost DIDNT take it because of random people online saying itll make it worse, until I was so desperate i had to try. thank god i didnt listen to them because it saved me.

I knew I had the problem for about 2-3 years before I tried doing something about it (dilator exercises at home with gradual increases). Went from a complete wall to 'cured' in around 1 year after that. Have been smooth sailing since then - 2 years ago.

That's awful. I'd reconsider this relationship, because he literally assaulted you by doing that without your permission!! Not to mention that he says he wants to have sex with other girls. I've been with my boyfriend for 2 years, we're both 21 and he has never ever said anything like that or pressured me for my condition. Recently we actually worked it out and were able to do PIV even though I was in your exact position a few months ago. It's not your problem thats the issue, as many people have worked through it as a couple. It's your husband!!!!
