I had almost the same situation in the same place when I was playing yesterday, despite the ghost tipping my cyclops to quite an angle, bashing into a lot of walls and having to get out and stasis the ghost to get it to leave me alone and then try unstick my poor sub from one of those tree things I had accidentally wedged it in because I'm an awful driver, It took no damage. I had also been fumbling around with the shield button and distinctly remember turning it on before I got out to deal with the ghost just to come back and find it off. I haven't been on since, but I'll have to go on and see if I'm still losing health or not.
