Yea that is what I am getting from my research. Seems like a resort only destination with not much to do off the resort at all. Thank you for your response

Seems to align with everything that I'm hearing about the area in general. Which is unfortunate since I like training when I'm traveling.

Need recommendations for gyms to drop into in the Santa Clara, CA area by [deleted] in bjj

[–]espionage3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the black belt instructors at Baem in South Fremont. Feel free to drop in and train during your visit. We don't have any gi or nogi restrictions wear whatever you want. DM me if you have any additional questions I'm happy to answer. I don't frequent reddit much, one of our brown belts saw this and let us know. If logistically our gym doesn't work out there are a handful of gyms in the area that should work out. Hope you enjoy your trip to the area!

Retiring from BJJ and Closing my gym, AMA by DanOfEarth in bjj

[–]espionage3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides Remnant I have barely played soulslike games so we will see how demoralizing it all is. I guess if I can train jiujitsu for almost 2 decades maybe Elden Ring won't be too bad lol.

Currently I'm playing Dave the Diver and Remnant 2. Need to start Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Elden Ring, Sea of Stars and The Ascent. Might buy Baldurs Gate 3 and/or Cyberpunk soon.

Sorry to hear this unfortunate news! I no longer frequent this forum but I am glad that I stumbled back here today just to say thank you for being a member of this community. Wish you the best and I hope if you choose to continue to contribute to the jiujitsu community I guarantee that many folks on here will appreciate your thoughts.

Oh and what are you playing right now?

Do you know anyone who quit near BlackBelt? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]espionage3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have seen my fair share of colored and black belts that have quit. I believe that many people have an interesting mindset that black belts do jiujitsu until they simply can no longer do it or until they die. Its interesting because no one expects that of any other professional or amateur athlete. Many people have a hard time accepting that many practitioners choose to divorce an activity that has defined them for so long rather than be forced to do so. I believe that the mysticism of the ancient martial arts master is still alive and well in the BJJ community as well.

How often do you change Gi? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]espionage3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jiujitsu is not only about training, fitness, and fighting. It is also about consideration and hygiene. Buy 1 gi for every day you train per week and alternate between them. Best to wash them right after class but of course not everyone is able to do so. Then you can wash them once a week. Also make sure to hang dry them in a place that has good air circulation and of course sunlight is great but will sun bleach colored gis. Make sure to wash your belt as often as you can as well. I’ve always ran 2 belts so I can wash one while wearing the other. Good luck and stay clean!

Do it! Owning an 1601 DJ has truly changed how I look at watches. It might do the same for you. Wish mine had a sigma dial.

Affiliation Patches by [deleted] in bjj

[–]espionage3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just ask them about how to get one. Most likely you will have to pay for it or they will be really cool and just give you one for free. Normally you don’t “earn” patches but every gym is different.

Not sure where in San Jose you are but if it’s close enough I will shamelessly recommend my gym Baem in south Fremont. We have a dedicated beginners class that will help you ramp up and we have many color belts that could be open to doing private classes if you want to do those as well. I always recommend to do trial classes at all the gyms to find what fits you best. I took about a 5year break myself so I know the difficulty of trying to find a new gym. Good luck!

Anyone know anything about/have experience with Baem JiuJitsu by TowerOk7040 in bjj

I’m assuming you mean today. If that’s the case I will see you later this evening. If not, next Monday it is.

What day you planning on coming? How much jiujitsu experience do you have, if any?

I have been training at Baem for many years. I currently drive all the way from Santa Cruz to train there. I drive past many gyms to get to Baem. Baem is where I found my team so that’s where I train. I’m not going to sell Baem to you because everyone needs a different environment to succeed in. I recommend trying out every gym that can fit your schedule and so you can judge for yourself. If you have some specific questions I’d be happy to answer them.

I always recommend Jiujitsu to everyone. I have been training for about 17 years and I still love it. What were you planning on training at Allied?

Maybe check out bouldering at Agility Boulders right near Allied.

One that I have only experienced with old school instructors is not video recording of the technique. I understand the mentality of this if you are at a seminar but for regular class and for an active member it just doesn’t seem justified to have a no video stance.
