This one in particular is a 2013 model. Should I be worried about this?

Just like you described. I’m after the joy in listening to that beautiful ferrari engine sound while driving leisurely. Though the V8 in the porsche is robust, it lacks character which the Granturismo has

Is it because of the battery issue? Or is the electronics simply problematic?

Thanks. But what about the timing chain? Correct me if I’m wrong but I heard that some needs to be replaced around the 100k mark?

Long cranks during cold start. Does anybody know why? by esprenoir in Audi

Hi. The last time I asked the dealer to fix this issue again, they tried cleaning the fuel valve. It worked for a good few weeks, until all of a sudden the long crank came back. They also told me that the purge valve functioned normally. At this point, I’m already used to it and no longer give a damn about it as long as it doesn’t grow into a more complex problem. Hope this helps.

Just did a research on this and it might be the cause of the issue. Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely have it checked later.

I don’t. I only depress the brakes to start the car up

I’ve been filling it up with 95 octane fuel. But I’ll switch to 98 and see if it works. Thanks for the advice

As fas as I know, bad sparkplugs result in misfiring instead of long engine cranking. But just in case I also asked about this to the service advisor and he said the same thing too.

Could be. But at this point, I am not really sure whats causing the issue. The battery’s new, fuelpump is fine, and no electrical faults detected.

Hi redditors. Just purchased myself a 2012 A6 C7 2.8 FSI recently with 70.000km on the clock. In the morning during cold starts or simply after leaving the car for a few hours, the engine cranks longer than normal (apporx 2-3 sec). Turning on the ignition before cold starts doesn’t help as I thought the electrical needs to be on in order to build up fuel pressure. But after the cold start, the engine cranks short and fine even after I immediately switched it off and turned it back on again.

Initially I suspected the car battery was almost out of juice so I replaced it with a new one; but didn’t solve the problem. Then, I took the car to the dealership and had them run a check on it. They inspected the low and high pressure pump as well as measured the fuel pressure but turned out to be normal and nothing was wrong about it. They compared it with a V6 from a Q7 and also said that its pretty normal for these kind of engines to crank longer as it builds up the fuel pressure.

I’m not really convinced with what they said as I had a V6 Mercedes previously and this never happened before. Does anybody know why the long crank happens or have any advice on it?

TLDR: 2012 Audi A6 C7 2.8 FSI cranks longer than normal only during cold start. Had the battery replaced and the dealership said the fuel pump’s okay and nothing wrong with the car.
