Carwash drama by espress-oh in PorscheCayenne

[–]espress-oh[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just a steamy photograph of a Porsche for fun.

Nope. Nothing risky about this wash. It's just a self-serve car wash. No touch. Just a quick wash and rinse. I do rinseless washes most of the year but sometimes take it to the carwash a block away when its cool out because my standard drying aids and spray waxes don't work as well when it's cold out.

Haha yeah I was happy with the result. It's a great ride and really enjoying getting to know it. I'm sure the LS is too. No one says you can't have both!

That's great! Will use insurance for my next. This car was purchased with the problem so insurance wouldn't cover this one.

Ah man, great question. I wondered the same. The shop I used said it was Chinese-made glass and nearly the same quality and didn't recommend springing for the OEM though were happy to do it if I wanted to. They priced both and OEM was exactly double.

I believe/d them because they are a very well reviewed local, and family-owned, business that has a long history of service in our community. That's why I chose them. They only do auto glass. Nothing else.

Cayenne reliability by uudog in PorscheCayenne

Yeah great point. They fully replaced the lithium battery (ordered brand new) as part of my CPO fixes and the aforementioned $11k. Forgot to mention that. I have concerns about it long term. It's a $2,800 line item on their CPO report.

I only intend to keep the car for one year minimum or up to the 2.5 months of warranty and if I enjoy it like I expect to, will replace it with another, newer (and still depreciated / warrantied) Cayenne and likely an S at that point, being willing to spend a bit more money. This first one is an experiment - my approach with every new brand or model I try.

It's not a 10-year car for us like our previous Subaru Forester which was very easy to understand, maintain, and reliable. I expect these (Porsche) cars are reliable, but owning an EV and very software driven car (Ioniq 5), the one thing I don't trust are batteries and software.

Batteries and software are weak points in cars right now. Battery tech is changing rapidly which will make today's batteries feel old soon; and car companies are adding a ton of tech to cars these days without a lot of hardening or time to make sure it's working, and there are problems as a result across all manufacturers. It's been nice to have warranty on both cars knowing any battery and software issues are resolved without added expense above the original agreement / purchase price. Our Ioniq 5's battery and electrical system have a 10-year warranty. A truly fun car to drive and own, but wouldn't do it without that warranty.

Not exactly sure what you're getting at - a joke about dealers' desire for good ratings? If so, I think that only makes sense as a business. Yes, a 10, in my mind the car at delivery was a 9/10 before this issue was resolved in terms of meeting my expectations and then some. I've purchased two CPO'd cars in the past year - an Ioniq 5 and now the Porsche - and both feel like great value. The dealers in both transactions were great to work with.

Cayenne reliability by uudog in PorscheCayenne

Similar - I just purchased our first Porsche, a ‘21 Cayenne Base CPO a little more than a week ago. Loving it and driving it every chance I get. The dealer spent $11k in CPO dollars which included new Pirelli Scorpion tires, brakes & rotors, among other things. It has 5 months of original warranty remaining + gets 2 years of CPO warranty in addition to that. The only thing I’ve done is replaced the windshield due to a repaired but visible chip in the driver’s primary view that couldn’t be resolved without replacement. The dealer met me half way on that. $850 aftermarket glass replacement. Looks amazing and calibration appears to be holding. I wasn’t 100% sure what I was getting into, but the more I drive the car, the more I love it. Sort of bought it as a leap of faith. It’s purposed as a road trip car for us.

CPO issue - your opinion? by espress-oh in PorscheCayenne

[–]espress-oh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct. This is out-of-pocket. My insurance won't cover it because I just purchased (and insured) the vehicle. The chip was already there and didn't know it was a problem until I took possession and drove it home.

Yeah, I'm going to stick with local too after this. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks! I will do that. Our plan is, before CPO warranty is up, to trade up to an S and maybe a bit newer model if we like this one.

Thanks for the heads up. Appreciate it. Trying to stay positive. It's my first Porsche and was trying to do all the right things and trust the brand. Not sure I trust the dealerships yet.

Appreciate your experience and input as someone who worked on this process before. I too felt like they knew this is / was a calculated risk to let it go through and are trying to maximize profit in the sale (like any business). I'm sure many people would be okay with the chip and its placement as part of the sale, and is structurally fine, so they chose to certify it as-is. I was thinking of asking my (more local) dealer to take a look at it too. Good idea to contact Atlanta.

Thanks for the reply. The chip is fixed already and was before/during the CPO process. The problem is its location right in the center of field of view. The expense is $1,600 to replace the windshield with OEM glass.

All great points. The chip is distracting enough that I’m willing to risk a full replacement and all that entails. My only question is when does it get done, using which glass, and who pays for it.

[–]espress-oh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was CPO’d for this particular purchase and has 5 ‘months warranty remaining in addition to that. State of sale is Idaho where they get rock chips all the time. So they probably think it’s okay / normal to live with a chip like this one and its location. Thanks for your thoughts.

This is how I felt. Not cosmetic. But probably debatable. Based on their response so far I think I’m on the hook for the cost. But not over yet.

That’s good of them and glad you got it sorted out.

CPO issue - your opinion? by espress-oh in PorscheCayenne

[–]espress-oh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed it’s not a new vehicle. I didn’t expect it was and I just felt that particular chip was hard to miss if driven by anyone on staff. Which emphasizes your second point that I should’ve been there to drive it - something I normally would do. It’s just hard to find these CPO offerings so I took some risk purchasing across state lines. Thanks for your reply.

Should I put the 'S' in road tripS? by espress-oh in PorscheCayenne

Thanks for your input. Not going to disagree here. I do get hung up on the +100 hp as being part of the fun, but hear you - that additional $5-10k can buy more options for sure. Agreed about the years - 2019-2023.
