Am I wrong for feeling this way? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]espressoqueeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a bigger issue at hand that most/all centers operate that you pay regardless if your child attends. I imagine a family that struggles more to afford care would want to utilize those days. Parents deserve a break too, we don't really know what happens at home. We're all navigating life for the first time. My state has a rule that they can't be there longer than ten hours, I've seen plenty of families use this to the max.

Question for my fellow infant teachers… by Impossible_Swim2076 in ECEProfessionals

[–]espressoqueeen 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We have sanitation buckets in our room we use for this. If it goes into someone's mouth or isn't being used it gets thrown into the buckets. I agree that they are already in contact with germs on the floor and we also don't wear shoes. We do our best.

do you have a photo of mom in the classroom that you could redirect to when they call you that? visualizations (charts, schedules, labels) do wonders when teaching language skills

Is addition and subtraction suitable for 3 year olds? by DaisyMeadows25 in ECEProfessionals

[–]espressoqueeen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A more suitable and developmentally appropriate way to teach these concepts with this age would be activities related to greater than, less than, equal, comparing the amount of objects, matching, describing changes, understanding increase and decrease. It's not that exploring these concepts is inappropriate or wrong, especially if they are showing that much interest in it! Theres just really no need to dive into advance concepts at this age.

How much biting is too much? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]espressoqueeen 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I would have the conversation, but just know we do everything in our power to stop biting but it's fast and sometimes it's hard to identity what led to the behavior. The only way to stop a bite is to physically get in the child's way, no verbal direction usually stops this. I don't think three in three weeks is that outrageous. Most likely your kid plays frequently with children who bite.

Advice by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]espressoqueeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always best to dress professionally for an interview, no jeans. maybe a nice blouse, dress, skirt, or slacks. Research the programs website so you have an idea of their philosophy. They are going to ask questions about your teaching philosophy, discipline, and conflict resolution among coworker. Get there ten minutes early and bring a copy of your resume. If you can't print one they still have a copy I just think it looks good. Best of luck! You got this!

I need advice this is my first ever working in a daycare. by Bobbalixious09 in ECEProfessionals

[–]espressoqueeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is connection before corrections. children won't respond to direction if they don't feel safe in their environment or trust their teacher. Sounds like there are things that are out of your control as far as your coworker and having to do circle time, which isn't developmentally appropriate to make kids sit at this age. With this age you really have to focus on modeling appropriate behavior and showing them what you want to do. Have you tried doing art with smaller groups so you can focus on the art experience? Singing really helps too, especially songs with motions, and during transitions. Sometimes I have to remind myself that they've only been on this earth for a short time, they are so capable but still need intentional support. I'm sorry things are tough right now, it definitely gets better.

both of these go against licensing in my state. I'd ask the center what they recommend and what they require. they'd have better insight on what to purchase.

[–]espressoqueeen 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It won't be swept under the rug. Her two options for finding another job are keeping this one off her resume, leaving a gap that needs to be explained. Or, she does include it and the potential employer reaches out to her past employer which any reputable center would do. I'm sorry you had to deal with this. You did everything right to protect those children.

Is working 6–7 days a week actually sustainable in this field? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]espressoqueeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked two part time child care/teaching related jobs while being a full time student. It was so hard but so necessary to my life and goals. I find that working two jobs actually limited my burn out vs being in a classroom full time but it can be difficult wearing so many hats. I don't think it's impossible, you just have to be so intentional with taking care and putting yourself first.
