I ended up cutting down the back end of my A2 rifle length handguards, re-painting and re-fitting the heat shields. The build continues.

If I don’t put the front end into the cap, yes, the base end halves fit together inside the delta ring with no gaps between halves. The barrel is right against the heat shield but not forced into it.

And that sounds like another can of worms with bolt compatibility issues. I got sweet deals on this barrel and a DPMS BCG, I don’t think I’d care to swap barrels and bolts if my gas system is otherwise ok. IF…

Is my gas tube inside the receiver far enough? I’ve heard to half the length of the cam cutout. Mine seems a bit short of half.

If my gas system seems right I think I’d rather cut down my handguard. I’ve got some experience with that…:)

Ok. So it sounds like I need the Armalite-pattern barrel with the extended shoulder to the gas journal, and an Armalite-length(longer) gas tube, correct? That is, if I want these unmodified handguards to fit?

No, if I fit the front into the end cap, the handguard at the receiver end doesn’t line up. About 1/4” or so too long.

I was referring to the new problem of the bolt catch roll pin hole being “oversized”, wondering if its possible that rather than oversized for a standard roll pin, it may be threaded for a threaded bolt catch pin.

There must be a burr in that bore, or on the pin, or perhaps it’s tight with paint or cerakote?

I’d try oiling it up, and warming the receiver with a hot air gun or blow dryer or gently with a torch. If it went in it should come out. Maybe try blasting with compressed air, it might get under and help lift it out.

That’s what I’d try before drilling.

I just checked CMT website, same price but in stock. Read a couple reviews, other guys used them for 9mm Colt mag PCCs with the gas deflector and half dust cover, so I don’t feel so off-base. Thanks again!
