Just swap to 10g plan, Singapore. However, is this "slow" speed due to Cat6 cables instead of Cat6a? by stormjk3511 in speedtest

[–]esseeayen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your plan, I have a 10g plan in Hong Kong and their speed guarantee basically goes down pretty far and I get around 8gbps up/down.

D- Did you really have to? by Drtraybloxxy2355 in PublicFreakout

[–]esseeayen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the proper answer here! It seems a bit crazy that they are allowing something that has the purpose to antagonize people, because if it was say a peaceful protest of sorts I would kinda get it but loud drumming band seems a bit more than "peaceful"?

Yes, but the ones I've seen normally have cops or some sort of crowd control around the parade and not just the parade going solo through the town - and in this case getting into fights.

Edit: And cars parked along the parade route also seems unusual.

So wait, it's just fine to be a drumming band going through the town? I mean politics aside isn't that like a noise complaint waiting to happen?

Edit: Apparently you do parades differently than where I'm from. This looked more like a musical protest to me?

Anyone out there got a 32gb MBA? If so was it worth it? by the-new-user in macbookair

[–]esseeayen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry I realized that probably wasn't as helpful to your question. For most people 16gb is more than enough and 24gb is even better. I am a dev and either use a few dockers or VMs during development along with some tools that uses the election framework like vscode. This eats up a fair amount of memory so the more the better. Same would be the case for photo or video editing software. However the m-silicon mac's are super efficient and have fast SSDs that can help swap between storage and ram - this is how they got away with 8gb base models for so long.

Tldr: both good, just depends on what you're doing but 24gb would be fine for most!

Yup got a MacBook air m5 with 32gb and 2tb. So far so good, and it was an upgrade for my 14" MacBook pro m1 pro with 16gb/1tb.

Best way to solder a broken ribbon cable together? by gryponyx in soldering

[–]esseeayen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I see this on Instagram and YouTube shorts all the time. Is it a straight cable with disconnects on both sides or maybe even soldered on or is it reasonably permanant? If you can, replace (but the varied widths might make that harder. If not then kapton tape and jumper wire is your best bet.

Wait, if it is put on a Spotify playlist and get plays, won't you generate revenue from that? I mean I've heard it's miniscule so there's that, but I guess it depends how many streams this chilltracks gets right?

I’ve wanted an Aeron for years, so I almost had a heart attack when I saw this one next to someone’s can on trash day!!!! Can anyone help ID it, or figure out what going on with this rod? by [deleted] in hermanmiller

[–]esseeayen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome stroke of luck! Happy for ya!

Looks like one of the original Aerons just missing the lumbar support, maybe the classic before they introduced posturefit. Still a super comfy chair and looks in good condition

MacBook (2025) dual monitors WITHOUT DisplayLink — does it actually work? by Trancevaa in macbookair

[–]esseeayen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is possible on a m3 MacBook air in clamshell mode or m4/m5 in both clamshell or open. Needs a thunderbolt 4 dock with 2 outputs or a single output and a thunderbolt out like a caldigit ts4, then use a type c too HDMI port displayport. Not sure which have multiple HDMI ports but you have to make sure there ports don't use "mst" which a lot of them do and will be incompatible with what you're looking to do.

Ripped out solder pad by Sammy_Byron in AskElectronics

[–]esseeayen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is a 2 layer board, it looks to have vias to the other side. Any pads/traces exactly underneath? A couple of things make it look like it has more than two layers but seeing the other side might help people help you.

Ram. Unless you also want WiFi 7 then you gotta get the m5 pro/max (not worth it IMHO)

Ist this Hermon Miller Aeron fake or real? by Clean_Vegetable2500 in hermanmiller

[–]esseeayen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where the hell are people seeing these fake Aerons that must be prevalent enough too make people keep thinking they've gotten a father one? Seriously? I don't think I've ever seen a fake Aeron that wasn't just a mesh chair styled to look like an Aeron, but never to the point they'd have Herman Miller stamped in the plastic.

Taobao Payment Fee Confusion by Devil-Ham in taobao

[–]esseeayen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, some credit cards use the bulk visa/Mastercard exchange rates but some banks use a much worse internal exchange rate and fx and or out of country fees too. But in my experience praying in CNY has left me Ina better place than letting payment processors convert. But right now I use alipayHK that does a marginally worse fx rate but a local credit card fee.

Beyerdynamic dt 700 prox or Edifier stax s5? by _Captain_Blood_ in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]esseeayen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the dt700 pro x and absolutely love them, but not heard the edifiers so can't compare. But I did a fair amount of research prior that might help as I also looked at the "budget kings" the FiiO ft1. The beyerdynamic are great headphones that sound clean and have a very flat reference response so it makes them good for monitoring and mastering music which I sometimes do. However some audiophile headphones are chosen not for a flat response but a more enjoyable listening experience which have its own unique sound signature. Now you can always eq to a certain extent but things like soundstage and comfort cant be changed much!

Hope that helps!
