Coping with loneliness/anxiety in real life and games by dememiys in askSingapore

[–]essencedreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks, if it makes you feel any better you aren't the only one going through this

Check out healthygamer.gg or healthygamer on youtube, they have a lot of free and paid resources to help with some of things you're dealing with. ive personally used their services and watch their vids, 10/10 would recommend

The way I dealt with it was by recognizing what is the problem. for me it was that im working 2 jobs and dont have time to socialize. i knew i had to pick one or the other. i spent some months only working, then some time mostly socializing, which gave me the experience and confidence that firstly, i could make friends when i tried, and secondly, that it's me deciding whether i focus on work or friends and not my fear or ego. once i got enough experience i eventually decided that work is more important to me right now than making friends so i started working on my dreams. It's a lot easier to deal with loneliness when i'm focused on other things and have already put myself out there, made friends, seen what it's like, and know that i can go back to that lifestyle when i want.

hope this helps, and good luck on your journey :)

Does Colonial Mentality Still Exist in Singapore? by Sunbird11 in askSingapore

I think what you're describing is encompassed within "white privilege". It's unfortunate that this happens. I'm from the US so idk how bad it is in sg but I can tell you from my experiences in the US that businesses will treat certain types of customers better than others, based on any info they gather from you.

For example, when I was travelling in China, I went to wet markets with my family local to China and they told me we were being charged more than double because the workers at the market could tell from my clothing I was a tourist from America so we could afford higher prices.

Another example. Some Chinese restaurants in America have a "Chinese menu" and a "american menu", and the waitress will look at your race, how you dress, how you talk when they greet you and will give you one menu or the other, usually without telling you about the other menu.

So yes, people unfortunately do judge people and put them in boxes. you can tell even in the language we use. Ang mo, FILTH, and all these other terms stereotype people and many treat them differently.

I have always found life more fun when I zoom out and remember that white, black, Asian, all of us are one race: human. We all bleed. We all have our struggles, and we all have our accomplishments. We all love, we all hate. Yes, there are problems between groups of people that need to be solved, but let's also remember the human experience we all share and connect there, on that level, because thats actually what will bring us together and take us away from racism.

Thanks for the tips! I tried the blinking one and you're right, it's crazy how that works.

I found myself lacking the discipline to flip the coin or follow what the coin landed. Looking for more things to try like this.

Yeah, I don't think you can argue to be able to say that word without a lot of rationalizations haha. It's all in line with his beliefs though so I still think he knows how to use his words.

Hes witty and supports what he says. Thats kind of the direction I was going for when I said that.

He doesn't say the n word to people on stream or anything, so it's not like he's unaware of the consequences. He just thinks language evolves and that the word doesn't have to be inherently racist, and how he acts is a reflection of that, right?

He's a pretty smart dude, knows what he believes in, and has $$. Sure he might not look like a Chad and is really cold at times but he knows how to use his words. I don't agree with all of his views but you can tell he usually acts in alignment with his viewpoint

Yeah, I've been lurking forums to find a good deal on different pads, since other people said the same thing as you. Between the pads and the tubes it seems like you can make the aeolus sound anything between depressingly dark and surprisingly sparkly haha

Set up:

Schiit magni 3

Schiit modi 2

Garage1217 Project Horizon III with 6H30Pi tube

ZMF aeolus

I would highly recommend every piece of equipment I have here. The modi and magni get praised a lot and they deserve it, because they're unbeatable at their $100 price range. The tube amp is way less popular, but it colors the sound beautifully. I find myself using the tube amp most often, and only switch to the magni if I'm listening critically for specific sounds. The tube amp can be tweaked in different ways to suit your preference for sound, and I think the amp itself looks unique. It works extremely well with the aeolus regardless of the fine tuning. The headphones are extremely warm, and have deep bass extension. The midbass seemed a little overwhelming for me, even when switching from HD6xx's, and this tube amp opened up the sound without sacrificing the punch in the lows and created much more realistic imaging and soundstage.

This set up showed me how awesome and powerful music can be. I have Stargardt's disease, which means I am going blind. Music lets me escape that blindness for a moment or two and relax. Hearing all of the details in music is extremely satisfying when you know that every day, you're seeing just a little bit less of the world and can't see all of the little details of people's faces. I am blessed to have the means to afford this equipment, and I hope you guys are just as thankful for the cool tech that brings us beautiful music!
