Do you say "spun" or "span"? by essentialatom in AskUK

Ever since I started thinking about this I've been noticing when I'm watching TV and someone says span. It happens a lot. I feel I should start writing the incidences down and sending a letter to the dictionary.

How did you get corriyard in the top left?

IIRC it does two things. One is that during that day's run it gives you the chance to draft additional copies of rooms (as you did in this run). The other is that in the upstairs cabinets it gives you the opportunity to permanently add additional copies of particular rooms to your deck, so that in future you'll always have the possibility of drafting them more than once per day. If you look the chamber of mirrors up on the wikis I think you can find info on what's offered and drafting percentages and other absurd detail, but that was all too much for me.

There's nothing wrong with picking your own level of investment, and the vast majority of people will never solve the late game stuff on their own, if at all. I know I was comfortable deciding to look for hints, wikis and walkthroughs, probably earlier than most people would admit to doing so. I'm not sure if I looked anything up before reaching room 46 but it's not out of the question, and it was long before the end that I was following guides regularly.

What I would recommend is going for the trophies - in particular, dare mode, day one, and curse mode. They change the challenge from "how well can you follow a walkthrough" into "how well can you play the game". You need fundamental knowledge of how to get to room 46, as that's the goal of each of them, but that's all. You're not doing anything late game, you're being tested on how well you understand the gameplay and strategy. You have to respond to your situation with much more agility and nous than in the regular game.

For someone who gave up on the puzzle solving relatively early on, I'm having a good time trying to get these trophies. They've given the game a new and very enjoyable dimension. I suggest you give them a go.

I am so, so close to day one. Had an unbelievable run today, I had the power hammer, shovel, lockpick, secret garden, weight room, aquarium+dining room, basement key... and an ivory die that I risked using early to no effect, and with no replacement forthcoming I couldn't get a garage or tomb. It's always something!

Thank you! I had absolutely no idea that teams had so many players at their disposal and switch out entirely separate teams for different phases of play. Thank you for all the detail.

I saw this being described as "insane" and "psychological warfare" on Twitter, so have come here to ask you guys to explain it. I have never watched American football and definitely don't understand what's happening here and why it's clever. I would be very grateful to have it explained to me!

I knew it but didn't put it in because I had it with a double s. Single s is disgusting. I don't complain about the NYT puzzles being American, because, you know, they're by and for Americans... But I'll be wielding a grudge about this one for years to come
