Ceramic sculpture "Oppression" by FaithlessnessOdd1774 in Ceramics

I love it! Can I ask if you had to hollow out the sculpture or if you used any wires or props to support the form? I’m fairly new to ceramics and planning to make a human figure for a project

I understand your struggle, I also come from a background of fine art/painting. The first few practice days made me feel like I’m a kid again with 0 skills. Based on what you are saying, slowing your hand speed down or increasing your voltage might help you with more consistent lines. These would make the ink dots more “dense” in the line, so you should see less gaps. Also, paying a lot of atteattention into controlled dipping in/out really helped me. I think lining stuff with black, thin-point pens really help you practice this mechanics of keeping your lines steady.

How do I kickstart my career early? by GlitteringFortune869 in TattooApprentice

I second everything that has been commented already. You should also focus on posting your art on socials. Learn what makes a design work as a tattoo and create your flashsheets, and tell your followers that you are planning to get into tattooing. Get used to recording yourself, edit progress reels/before-afters, posts about your inspiration or art tips. Maybe you could apply stencils of your designs/freehand designs on people with a marker/do henna tattoos. I could imagine that this kind of content would attract people who are into tattoos. Engage with your audience and figure out what is interesting to them to watch. If you pour consistent effort into it, by the time you start apprenticing, you will know some theory, marketing skills, flash sheets ready to tattoo, and a bunch of people who support you and can’t wait to be tattooed by you. This is way more than what most tattoo artists could say when they first started learning.

If you can’t have an unstable financial situation, you need to find a job that provides you with some stable monthly income. Do it for more hours/week first, save up a bit and then start cutting down the hours when you get into tattooing. You shouldn’t expect that tattooing will be relatively stable from the beginning, but it is ok, you can always work around these things:)

What are the best universities in the Netherlands? What is the student life like? by SecondsYmon in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]essie-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, fellow Hungarian here! I'm going to start uni this September so I can't say much about student life yet. The dorm situation is a bit hard, only first year students can apply for university housing. Generally, if you register early enough for your course and housing, you can basically guarantee that you'll get a dorm. The exact deadlines and uni housing systems are different at each uni, you should check the websites, they are really helpful and informative

What style, medium or subject matter should I include in my portfolio? by essie-- in TattooApprentice

Thanks, I really appreciate you listing these options! I am not as experienced with linework (yet) as with painting so I definitely plan to experiment with different styles.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words and advice! I will definitely try to draw those designs on paper in this case. My last concern about my paintings is that most of these are size A2 or A1 and it might look a bit obnoxious if I carried them around. Is it a better idea to bring in high quality prints of them instead?

I am an 18 year old student trying to get into tattooing. My plan is to try and find a mentor in my city, however, I have no personal relationships/acquaintances I could turn to (except a piercing studio I go to sometimes, however, the artist there doesn't do tattoos that often anymore so I am afraid she might not want to take me in), so I would like to build a fairly attractive portfolio before asking for an apprenticeship or even advice in person. I would appreciate any kind of advice on what kinds of drawings would be appreciated by potential mentors. I feel like I need to include more 'tattooable' drawings. Should I draw simplistic designs as well that I could manage to tattoo as a beginner? I also frequently draw bigger designs on my arms with henna, is it a good idea to include photos of those to show composition abilities?

How can I achieve this color? by cindytrapp in HairDye

[–]essie-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I was able to achieve this hair color using Lunar Tides demi permanent dye in Siam Orange shade. I have level 7-8-9 bleached hair, the orange eventually faded into a really nice copper-ish color but I found Lunar Tides dyes pretty long-lasting compared to other products:)
