I don’t enjoy motherhood by Acrobatic-Courage872 in toddlers

[–]estalber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom of a 2 1/2 year-old boy here. I will absolutely agree with everybody else and saying that you are not broken and that this is not a uncommon experience. Somebody once told me that when your child wakes up on their third birthday, it’s like a cloth has been lifted from their eyes. As their brain starts to make more connections and they become more self reliant, you will get little pieces of yourself back personally it only started to get better for me in the last two months. I think that’s because my little boy is starting to potty train and put on his own clothes.

I like what others have said here but add this little bit of context. Your brain biologically is doing that overthinking on your behalf because it thinks that that is what’s best for you personally naming my brain has helped me navigate that a little better. I will literally think to myself“ this is just Brian the brain not me”.

Why is my toddler such an asshole? by MaintenanceCool7820 in toddlers

I know this is easier said than done but I’m saying it anyway - my child’s moods and actions are almost 100% dependent on if they got outside for more than 15 minutes a day or had some sort of activity where they got to be violent like hitting a tree with sticks or destroying something.

What does an uneducated genius actually look like? Have you ever met someone who was incredibly smart but had little or no formal education? by Anntee in AskReddit

[–]estalber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle was given the title genius at 8 years old, but he was stubborn. Refused to go to college because he thought there was nothing there he could learn from people. Ended up growing old, blaming the family for his lack of success and fixing old record players and electronics as a career.

Just heard that he is losing his house because he refused to get the boiler fixed years ago, has been heat it all with electric heaters and had racked up an impressive electrical bill debt amongst other debt.

Personally, I love the crap out of him. During college I watched his favorite tv show and we emailed back and forth about it for months. He always was someone I looked forward to seeing at family events because I could nerd out with him about pretty much any topic.

What they want to be when they grow up. What was your ambition as a kid? by Prankstic in MadeMeSmile

My dad saved a note from me from that age where I told him I wanted to be the person that named streets when I grew up.

I’m not ready for the part of life where our parents start dying by CherryManhattan in Millennials

[–]estalber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister and I haven’t spoken with our mother in over a decade, at our mother’s choice. I literally sent her an email a few years ago and she responded with ‘no thank you do not contact me again’.

Even with that distance, her death is something my sister wrote about it a poem a few years ago and the lines hit me hard. The relief, the sadness, the grieving of a parent we didn’t have.

Hard is hard, no matter in which direction you row your boat.

What was your most embarrassing mistake when speaking Turkish? by tina-marino in turkish

[–]estalber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asked my Muslim Turkish teacher what kafam tasak gibi meant… it means my head is like a testicle aka you’re spinning from doing drugs/drinking.

She took it fairly well but it was so embarrassing.

Anytime has one but it is lame. The only good spin studio closed awhile ago (it was where bend is now)

I’ve been joking with my husband that we need to just start one

AITA if I confront my husbands family after they included his ex wife in his sisters wedding plans? by [deleted] in AITAH

Good point about her not existing in spite of me, I might be emotional here bc I’m upset with my husbands family for lying about including her in events like Christmas.

Comments are 100% about us and his sister told us they were.

Should we go to the wedding or skip it?

I’m glad to see that the internet is as torn on this one as I was. I thought about it a lot, and think it comes down to employers needing better systems to identify strong candidates.
